WoW! This book was entertaining, developed characters in depth, and had enough aspects to keep the reader fully engaged. If you haven't been following Dee Henderson's series, you can still pick this book up as a stand alone. But beware, you'll be enticed to read the others. It was that good.

Undetected is the story of widowed Navy Commander Mark Bishop and young scientist Gina Gray. Bishop is the Captain of a submarine, accustomed to responsibility, leadership and success. He's also lonely and ready to start dating again when he bumps into Gina Gray, the genius sister of his friend and fellow submarine Captain, Jeff Gray. Gina is fresh off a difficult break-up with yet another guy who can't handle the fact that she's smarter than he is, and working on discovering new sonar applications. Neither considers the other one as a relationship possibility, but Gina's work brings them together repeatedly.

Dee Henderson has been one of my favorite authors for years. I love the depth of her books, the suspense, and the research she puts into different careers. Not only does she keep you holding your breath as you turn page after page, she answers questions about faith in each story. The O'Malley series was the first one I read of hers, and that series touched on the questions that seekers have as they are coming to faith, and wrestling with whether they can believe in God, let alone have a relationship with him. Undetected takes a look at the walk of mature Christians, prayer, and how past hurts affect our relationship with God and others.

I will say that Undetected was a bit different than many of Dee Henderson's books. I guess it would fall closer to her Uncommon Heroes military series than some of her other books. There was no mystery to solve, no criminal danger, and only mild suspense. There was military danger and romance, all wrapped up in a complex, well-developed story. The book left me wondering how much of the sonar science Gina developed and the book described was actually possible. It also pushed me to develop better prayer habits.

If you're fan of military novels with a touch of (CLEAN!) romance, or a fan of Dee Henderson's, I am sure you will enjoy Undetected as much as I did.

I received this book free, in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received and a positive review was not expected.

Mark Bishop is the commander of the USS Nevada, a ballistic missile submarine. He works hard and does a good job commanding the Nevada. But with the job also comes the pressure and responsibility of being in command of firing the weapons if valid presidential orders arrived. But after he returns from his 90 day patrols on the Nevada he wants to have someone waiting for him. But the wonderful girl he has in mind might not work out as easy as he would hope.

Gina Gray has always been really smart, even though she would rather be like everyone else. She has worked with sonar and other things for the Navy before, and every time she comes up with something it seems to have a way of changing things for the Navy. But her dream of being married seems to be the one thing she can not do. And with this last breakup coming out of no where she decided to keep herself occupied with some new sonar ideas while waiting for her Brother, Jeff, to return from sea. But the discoveries she finds may change everything.

I don't think I have ever read a book by Dee Henderson before, and I really enjoyed it! It was a great book and must have been very well researched. I learned a lot about submarines and what life on them was like for the crew, but it was worked into the story really well and was very enjoyable. And the scenes and the characters were also very nicely done and seemed very real. It was a great book and I definitely recommend it!

I received this book free from Bethany House for my honest review. The opinions are my own.

    Undetected

    By Dee Henderson

Gina Gray is smart and can come up with solutions to problems that were thought to have no possible solution. She has the ability to see simplicity in the complex, but when it comes to personal relationships Gina is at a loss. And her latest break-up has her seeking her seeking her brother's help. Asking Jeff to help her find someone who won't be threatened by the way her mind works seems like a huge favor to ask of someone, but Gina needs help and she trusts Jeff.

Mark Bishop loves his life as a commander aboard the USS Nevada - a ballistic missile submarine in the US Navy. Mark still misses his wife, though it has only been a few years since she died. But he needs to move on, he knows Melinda would have wanted him to. But the life of a Navy Commander is demanding and can put an extra strain on a marriage.

When his best friend Jeff Gray approaches him about going out with his sister Gina, Mark turns him down because Gina is 10 years younger than him. But when he starts working with Gina on her newest discovery, he realizes he may have made a mistake. Is it too late to remedy the situation or will Jeff's second choice for Gina steal her heart before Mark can reveal his?

I really enjoyed the behind the scenes look at the life of a submarine crew. It was an interesting and intriguing setting for the rest of the story. Sometimes (for those not involved in this life) the strains that this puts on their personal life are fully appreciated and understood.

Dee Henderson does a wonderful job weaving an engaging and entertaining story. This can be a stand-alone story though there are a couple of characters from Unspoken who make a quick appearance in the story. If you like intense and exciting books that will capture your attention from cover to cover you don't want to miss Undetected!

Gina is a genius, which often equates with loneliness. After a failed relationship she heads to her brother's house to wait for him to return home. He works on a submarine for the US Navy. Gina has decided she wants to be married, despite her past track record with men. So she hopes that her brother will help her find a great guy. But when Daniel and Mark both seem like perfect choices she can't make a decision about either of them. Combine this with the potential volatile information she's just uncovered about sonar and she is one stressed woman. But God has been there for everything in the past. So she knows He'll guide her through this chaotic time as well.

Combine suspense, romance, and military drama and you have Undetected. The plot is full of technical details, yet I never felt lost or confused. The author did a great job of making the story seem authentic without overwhelming the reader with hard to understand information. The romance was sweet, clean, and heartwarming. It was woven throughout the entire story, but it wasn't over powering or overshadowed the plot. There are definitely elements of the main character's faith in the story. It is clear they are Christians, but the references are in relation to the characters and their lives so it doesn't feel preachy or over done. Dee Henderson is one of my all time favorite authors and she's definitely written another winner.
