As always, Dr.John MacArthur's ability to shed light on Scripture and to enlighten us with his understanding is unmatched. Twelve Extraordinary Woman is no exception. An in depth character study of twelve of the most wonderful women in the Bible which breathes life into them like never before.

This is a great book but it is a part of a trilogy of great books which include Twelve Unlikely Heroes and Twelve Ordinary Men. I was reading some of the reviews posted for Twelve Extraordinary Women prior to writing my own review and noticed some were disappointed by the lack of Esther in this volume and someone even had the nerve to say how Dr.MacArthur goofed by not including her.

The reason that Esther is not featured in this wonderful book is because she has a whole chapter devoted to her in Twelve Unlikely Heroes, which follows the exact same premise as this volume, giving 12 in depth character studies of various Biblical personalities who were unlikely heroes. Indeed, Esther was an extraordinary woman but even more than that, she was an unlikely hero for literally all the Jewish people living at the time.

My suggestion to everyone would be to not only buy and enjoy this wonderful book but to get the entire trilogy. All three books are fantastic reads and well worth your time, especially with Christianbook's fantastic prices!

All three books easily get 5 stars!

I am doing a Bible study with a new Christian who has no Biblical knowledge. This is an excellent study in helping her become familiar with some of the stories of the Bible, with how God used the women in that day, and in learning how God can use us in our everyday lives. The study is helping her see God as trustworthy and how very much He loves us.

I'm using this book for a one-on-one Bible study. We are into the 4th week and we have learned so much about GOD'S MERCY AND GRACE. These were extraordinary women because of His mercy and grace. I respect John MacArthur so much and he helps us to know the cultures of the times these women lived, which is so very helpful. He helps us to remember that no person is beyond redemption if they will turn to Him in faith! We serve an amazing God and He has made me an extraordinary woman by His grace, mercy, and forgiveness!

I'm just over halfway through this book, and I love how the author expands on each of these women and gives a better context of what it was like for them. The chapters seem a little long, but they're really interesting.

I read this book in a day. I could not put it down. Mr. MacArthur has an engaging writing style. What floored me most was how he was able to give more information on the prophetess Anna in the New Testament. When ever I read her part in Jesus' history I never paid much attention to her. I wondered how she lived but other than that I'd never thought of her. Mr. MacArthur paints such a wonderful portrait of her with the few simple verse she's in. As for how he approached Hannah, Samuel's Momma, he did the same thing. I never realized that Hannah and her husband had such a bond. He enabled me to see so clearly. I'm excited to read Twelve Ordinary Men, His book on Jesus' Disciples. If you are interested about woman in Old Testament and New Testament History this is a good book to read.
