Publisher's Description

Frontier dangers cannot hold a candle to the risks one woman takes by falling in love
In an act of brave defiance, Tamsen Littlejohn escapes the life her harsh stepfather has forced upon her. Forsaking security and an arranged marriage, she enlists frontiersman Jesse Bird to guide her to the Watauga settlement in western North Carolina. But shedding her old life doesn’t come without cost. As the two cross a vast mountain wilderness, Tamsen faces hardships that test the limits of her faith and endurance.
Convinced that Tamsen has been kidnapped, wealthy suitor Ambrose Kincaid follows after her, in company with her equally determined stepfather. With trouble in pursuit, Tamsen and Jesse find themselves thrust into the conflict of a divided community of Overmountain settlers. The State of Franklin has been declared, but many remain loyal to North Carolina. With one life left behind and chaos on the horizon, Tamsen struggles to adapt to a life for which she was never prepared. But could this challenging frontier life be what her soul has longed for, what God has been leading her toward? As pursuit draws ever nearer, will her faith see her through the greatest danger of all—loving a man who has risked everything for her?

One of the best Historical Fiction books I have read in awhile. Lori Benton knows how to captivate you from the get go and make you want to stay up all night to finish. Tamsen is a young woman who finds the strength to escape her step father and against all odds with the help of Jesse Bird make a new life for herself. Facing insurmountable hardships and looking over their shoulders for their pursuers makes for a great storyline. Tamsen finds her Faith to be her strength as she adapts from a sheltered life to life in the wilderness. A must read for all.

I won this book in a FB contest and am so glad I did. I look forward to reading more by Lori Benton.

My Review When Tamsen LIttlejohn escaped here home and horrible lifestyle, she thought life would be much better for her, but that wasn't the case for Ms. Littlejohn. Traveling across the mountain wilderness with Jesse Bird proved to be ful of hardships and difficulties that pressed Ms. Little to her limits, and then some. This is one of those books that make you go, WOW and WOW again! Tamsen was a lady that was as tough as tough can get! Her determination is one thing that kept me reading, and reading until the last page! I had trouble putting this book down, simply because I didn't want to leave the characters. Jesse was awesome! I loved everything about him! This is my first book by Lori Benton, but I will surely be picking up her debut novel and reading it as well.

This is a great book for those who enjoy historical fiction, especially the 1700's era. You will be in for a big and enjoyable read when you pick this one up to read!

The book started out really slow for me. It took me a while to actually want to read it. It seemed interesting, but it was a little boring. The book get better after a few chapters. The author is very descriptive with her writing. Some readers may like this, but for me it just made the book longer. Although the story was good, I felt like it took a long time for me to finish it. It also started to get a bit repetitive because they constantly would have to be on the run again. They would stop at one place then leave, go to another place, then leave. I just wanted them to either be caught or escape for good. The journey was dragged out. My favorite aspect of the story were the Native Americans because I find it interesting to read about the culture. That is what brought my rating of the book up from a 3 to a 4. Another positive were the characters, I liked them all and they were well developed. I also enjoyed the ending. It was very creative and unexpected and it tied everything together well.

I received this book for free from Blogging For Books for this honest review.

The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn is filled with wonderful, multi-faceted characters. Each one seems to straddle cultural lines, never entirely certain to which group they belong. I found myself wondering how I would react if I were faced with a similar situation, and thats always a good clue that Ive been pulled deeply into a story. This book is a gem!
