When her friend vanishes from a cruise ship, reporter Darcy St. James isn't satisfied with their explanation that she simply left her job of her own accord. Something isn't lining up, and Darcy believes the only way to find the truth is to put herself in Abby's position. Within days, Darcy learns her friend wasn't the only person to disappear mysteriously. Last summer, a woman vanished under almost identical circumstances.

Every Minute Counts
Darcy St. James returns to Alaska to join a journalist friend undercover on the trail of a big story. But when Darcy arrives, she finds her friend has disappeared. Troubled by the cruise ship's vague explanation, Darcy uses her cover as a travel reporter to investigate further.
The last person Gage McKenna expects to see during his summer aboard a cruise ship leading adventure excursions is Darcy. And in typical Darcy fashion, she's digging up more trouble.
He'd love to just forget her--but something won't let him. And he can't help but worry about her as they are heading into more remote regions of Alaska and eventually into foreign waters. Something sinister is going on, and the deeper they push, the more Gage fears they've only discovered the tip of the iceberg.
"The third book in Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series ratchets up the action and suspense. It's difficult to stop yourself from peeking ahead to the end, but the ride is worth the anxiety." --RT Book Reviews
"Dani Pettrey has delivered another incredibly compelling adventure in Alaska. STRANDED is full of suspense, beautiful rugged wilderness and white-water rapids, and a heartfelt romance. I loved catching up with the McKenna family." - Dee Henderson, New York Times bestselling author
KatyTennesseeGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Alaskan Courage, Book 3July 7, 2015KatyTennesseeGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Stranded is the third book in the Alaskan Courage series. I love this romantic suspense series, and enjoyed the third book as much as the first two. Although Id recommend you read the books in order for the most enjoyment, this one has enough action and excitement to stand on its own. Each book focuses on one member of the McKenna family. Stranded features Gage, whose romantic interest is Darcy St. James. Gage and Darcy already have some history from the previous book, where they had bid each other farewell and gone their separate waysat least by outward appearance.
The author writes in such a way that as a reader, I felt like I was right there in the story. I love books like this one, where I dont feel like Im just an observer, but I feel as if Im right there in the midst of the action, heartache, or excitement of the current moment. Stranded pulls the reader swiftly through a myriad of emotions and situations.
The faith element in this novel is a major part of the plot, and should give Christian readers an opportunity to ponder our own love and commitment to our friends. Do we really have the heart that Darcy has for her friend, Abby? Although, Darcy does tend to get on my nerves somewhat with her penchant for following her gut instincts, she is certainly focused and driven toward her goals, one of which is seeing Abby become a follower of Jesus. Gage, also, has not made a commitment to Christ, so we again see him battling and trying to come to terms with his past.
There are some great sub-plots, which add interest to the story and give readers an opportunity to know the characters on a deeper level. I love this type of family series, where each book allows the reader to become better acquainted with various members of the core group of characters. Im really looking forward to reading the fourth book. If you enjoy romantic suspense and family sagas, why dont you give this series a try? I think you will be very happy with the Alaskan Courage series.
Little AussieAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Dani does it again!July 15, 2014Little AussieAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Dani has done it again! It honestly amazes me the variety in each one of her stories. You honestly cannot predict what is going to happen based on the previous stories you have read in the series. Oh yes, you can predict that you will be pulled into the story from the very first page, that you will bite your fingernails and stay up late because of the suspense and simply "needing" to find out what happens next, and that you will be cheering the characters on (or wanting to give them a good kick) in terms of both solving the mystery and finally coming to terms with their feelings for each other. However, the timing of significant events, the pace of the romance and the type of mystery is different in each one so you literally don't know when or how things are going to occur. For me, this is what separates this fantastic series from many other suspense fiction series.
I enjoyed Gage and Darcy's story and loved how Dani included the outdoor adventure activities more so in this one than the others. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept you glued and guessing as to who the baddies actually were and what was going to happen next. Stranded also has some exciting new news about Jake that is not only going to rock Kayden, but you as well!
Teresa F.5 Stars Out Of 5July 6, 2014Teresa F.I LOVE this series that features the McKenna family and their friends. The Alaskan location is wonderful and "refreshing" as not a lot stories feature the winter climate. Darcy St. James and Gage McKenna are the featured/lead characters this time around. Their story is pretty special. I was totally engaged with their story. All the characters are well developed and believable. Story itself moved along at a good pace. I can't wait for the next book in this great series!
Publisher gave me a copy of this book to read and give my opinion and review.
alwaysreadingAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Delightful!July 5, 2014alwaysreadingAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Stranded is the third book in the Alaskan Courage Series by Dani Pettrey. For those of us that have been waiting, this is Gage and Darcy's story.
Darcy St. James has received a desperate call from an old friend that needs her help, but when she arrives she finds that Abby has disappeared from the cruise ship she has been working on as an undercover investigative reporter. Not believing the "official" story about Abby disappearance, Darcy begins her own investigation and finds, much to her disbelief as well as her relief, that Gage McKenna has been hired as the excursion director.
I was really looking for word to Gage and Darcy's story and for the most part I was not disappointed. This story was a whole lot better than I thought it was going to be, especially when we find out what the true motive was.
To be perfectly honest, when we first met Darcy in Shattered I really didn't care for the character. However, after finding out more of her backstory, her actions and reactions made more sense. I found that not only was she tenacious, but desperately loyal to someone who wasn't family, and had little contact with over the last three years. I found that very refreshing.
If you have read either of the first two books, you have found that we got a glimpse into why Gage struggles with God. In Stranded we finally get to read about the final outcome. I liked Gage's story. The fact that he is honest enough to admit to both God and himself about his anger.
The story itself was intriguing. It tackles one major issue in today's world and while the story is fiction, it could have a touch of reality. We get to learn a lot of kayaking and Jack's story gets revealed.
The only major problem that I had with the book were the parts where Darcy breaks into the cruise directors office, not once, but twice, trying to find out more about Abby's disappearance. Last time I looked B & E was illegal so that raises the question, as a Christian, does the end ever justify the means? Also the fact that Darcy wasn't even bothered by the fact that she doing something illegal. Oh I know this is fiction and it was meant to move the plot along, but it bothers me that this type of thing could be included in Christian fiction.
Overall this was a remarkable book that once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down.
ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A nice read.May 26, 2014ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: femaleI really enjoyed this next book in the Alaskan Courage series from Dani Pettery. I loved Darci's return and Gage's spiritual growth in this installment. The mystery keeps you guessing for a while, but this one was a little slower paced for me until a high suspense and dangerous scene would be thrown into the mix! I did get a little frustrated with the naivete of the characters. At times this led them to fall for things and land in dangerous situations that could have been prevented, but they did add to the suspense of the story. :) I really love how Dani writes about God and her characters relationship with Him; also pointing out that we can't control what others do. There were a few things that I wish had ended differently especially with her friend, but the overall book was a good read. I LOVE all of the McKenna siblings and I really loved how more was revealed about Jake's past! ;) Excitement, betrayal, adventure, danger, and mystery, await you!
Songs: "Carry Me" by Josh Wilson,
"Softly And Tenderly" by Alan Jackson,
and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" by Randy Travis
( and here's two more that I saw on Dani's list and thought "Oh yeah those really go"! ;) )
"Whom Shall I Fear [God of Angel Armies]" by Chris Tomlin
and "Bless The Broken Road (Remastered Version)"
by Rascal Flatts
P.S. And one thing I really enjoy about Dani Pettery is she has her own soundtracks for her books!!!
Here's where you can find them!
Songs etc. May be changed and/or added in the future. ~ASC
