Secure women are beautiful, powerful women because of their deep ability to love–not because they do it perfectly, but because they are loved by a perfect God. In her book, Nicole Unice writes how Jesus wants us to demonstrate what "life to the full" means, yet our own story is deeply affected by issues as ultimately life happens and pain does not discriminate. We hope the promise of abundant life is attainable, but we keep stubbing our toes on obstacles and issues that we don't know how to change; issues that kill our ability to love powerfully and unconditionally. Yet, healing is closer at hand once you recognize your need for it.

If you have ever wondered whether life lived with God can really change you, then Nicole welcomes you to journey through the pages of this book. She writes, as you accept your status as His beloved even in your mess, you can live His love with issues. Realizing you can't fix yourself comes with a posturing of your heart toward God through the practice of surrender and true humility that in every circumstance says, God, I need help. It's about trusting Him to shape your life and fashion you into exactly the woman He intends. To follow Jesus is to agree to change. In those private moments of surrender, we become strengthened for the public arena of our influence, and the result is a sweet freedom.

But God won't force His way in. He won't make you choose Him. He leaves this, the most important aspect of your life, up to you. Change is real and God is ready. Are you?

After reading Nicole's book and gleaning from the pages of her heart, I have been able to deal with issues in my own life and bring them to the surface, surrendering them totally to God by use of the practical applications she offers in her book and DVD group experience. From the realness of life's issues shared by women face-to-face on the DVD and the times of reflection and journaling taught in her book as well as the discussions by Nicole at the end of every chapter so readily available on my computer, I had everything essential to my success and you will too. This book and DVD curriculum offer all you need for a group setting except, of course, some delicious refreshments and a comfy couch! I would recommend this book and DVD to any group of women who are ready to choose growth and are challenged to succeed because, as Nicole sweetly states, it's built into the fiber of our souls to be reborn into Christ and to keep in step with His Spirit within us. It's not the easy path, but it's the dynamic, holy, and beautiful one!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers for review purposes.

I had never heard of Nicole Unice before but something about the introduction and summary of this book made me want to read it. I am so glad that I did! This book is about how many of us try to live a good Christian life but the same issues, that have tormented us for years, try to keep us from living life to the fullest. These issues include insecurity, fear, comparison, anger and control. Nicole explains these issues in a very relatable way. She also includes quizzes, prayers and other self-assessment tools such as journaling exercises and group discussion questions. I found these tools to be helpful and think that this book would make an excellent small group study or a study to do on your own. Nicole will be releasing a DVD curriculum in September 2012 that would be perfect for small groups.

I am so glad that I choose to review this book as it really spoke to me. I enjoyed Nicole's style of writing as I felt like I was sitting with a friend who really knew me and what I was going through. Many times I found myself re-reading a sentence because it was like a light bulb went off when I read it. This book also served as a gentle reminder of things that I know but so often overlook. I definitely recommend this book.

Nicole has done an amazing job in writing this book. We all have issues and I am learning to "own my issues". The more control I relinquish to God the more prosperous my life is becoming!!! I have learned I cannot control life or life's circumstances. I release it all to Christ and am learning what it feels like to walk by faith! I highly recommend this book to all women get on board and Own Your Issues!!!

In She's Got Issues, the author teaches that every woman struggles with issues and to varying degrees. Of all the issues, that plague mankind, the five that are the biggest problems among women are control, insecurity, comparison, fear, anger/unforgiveness. The author devoted two chapters per issue and in the first chapter, she explains what the issue is, how it can affect a woman, and the underlying causes for the issue. She also included a checklist for each issue, which I found was very helpful in determing how much of a problem each issue is in my life. In the second chapter, devoted to each issue, the author wrote about the importance of allowing God to heal that part of yourself as well as our responsibilities in the healing process. Throughout the entire book, the author used true stories of real people to illustrate the points she was trying to make and Scripture verses to further the point that was being made. I found this book to be very enlightening and it caused much self-reflection for each issue that I read about and I found the stories and Scripture verses to be quite compelling. I think that this is one of those books that would be beneficial for every woman and teen girl to read because I have seen for myself that these issues are very prevalent in our society today.

Not a fan of the title, but good anyway

She's Got Issues by Nicole Unice is the latest book I've received from Tyndale for reviewing.

And let me start by saying I don't like the title.

To me, the phrase brings to mind people who struggle with particular, non-universal problems. And that isn't who this book is really about.

It's about the areas of struggle that are common to almost all of us in one way or another. All of the little things of our daily lives that we battle with that seem small on their own, but add together to keep us from really being changed by being a Christian.

It goes through different areas, and includes different quizzes to evaluate where you might need to consider things in your life.

But not all of these are going to be obvious. Quite a few may have different ways that they would show themselves that you wouldn't really think would apply to you at first glance.

For example, you may not have issues with control as in trying to control other people, or being obsessive about trying to control things in life... but there's also another side of the coin, in being overly avoiding of control and feeling like you don't have control over life, that things are mostly up to chance.

I was sort of surprised on how many chapters I figured wouldn't relate, only to read through and find that they really did in ways I wouldn't have expected.

But really... not a fan of the title. It doesn't really go where the book goes, but it also makes it a book that's a lot less likely to be picked up or purchased (or even read in a place where other people can see the title) by the people that the book really aims for, bogged down by the accumulation of the smaller struggles in everyday life rather than battling a particular "large" issue.
