Complex characters and a tense plot make this a thrilling tale of romantic suspense. Fans of the other titles in the series will not be disappointed with this gripping installment, and the intricate and eerie story line will entice readers who enjoy books by Ted Dekker, Iris Johansen, and J.D. Seagrass pier is the third book in the Hope Beach series.
Erin Summerall has brought her mother and daughter Josie to Hope Beach in hope that the change of scenery will help her own health as well as her mother's dementia. Oh and to hide from the man who has been stalking her.
FBI Agent Marc Everton, comes to Hope Beach when he receives a frantic phone call from Erin, who is an old college sweetheart.
As with her other book, Collen Coble has written a wonderful page turning mystery, filled with characters that jump off the page and right into your heart. You love the heros and dislike the villains. The story itself was well written with lots of plot twists and turns and enough suspense to make you keep turning the page. We also get to visit with the characters from the first two books, which is always fun.
I part I struggled with is that the author had chosen Erin to have had a heart transplant and she then introduced the concept of "cell memory" into the story. Cell memory is a theory that our personality, our likes and dislikes are imprinted on our internal organs and when someone receives one of those organ, sometimes their personality changes. For instance they may have not like coffee but after the transplant they suddenly are drinking 4 cups a day, or maybe their favorite color was yellow and now it's suddenly red. Or they can have visions of the other persons life. There is such a fine line with this whole thing, but for me it came across to much as science fiction. I felt that the story could have worked just as well without this cell memory thing and that Erin and Marcus were smart enough to figure things out on their own. This is just my opinion and I do not take away any stars because it. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Vivid nightmares recalling the hazy details of her donor's murder are becoming reality, especially when an alleged stalker becomes brazen enough to break into her home; putting Elin, her young daughter and her aging mother at risk. Moving her family to a remote cottage on Hope Island gives her a brief sense of security, but trouble seems to follow Elin; especially when FBI Agent Marc Everton gets involved, in more ways than one.
Marc Everton has not seen Elin Summerall in years and a previous encounter produced a daughter that he never knew he had. He has been aware that Elin was recently widowed and became the recipient of a heart transplant, but his investigation of a co-worker's murder brings him directly to Elin's front door. Highly skeptical of Elin's "cell memory" at first, he quickly puts credence in her recollections when they dig a little deeper into the facts of the case. And it is obvious that someone is desperate to silence Elin . . . . . for good. And what about Elin? And what about their daughter? Marc and Elin are faced with some important decisions . . . . if they live long enough to make them.
The pace of this romantic suspense quickly accelerates by the middle of the book; Colleen Coble has written another really good story!
