A Rush of Wings by Kristen Heitzmann has been in my "to read" pile for a while but made it to the top at the recommendation of a friend. It. Was. Wonderful. Noelle is running and wants to start her life over. She finds safety and new friends at a ranch in Colorado. Brothers Rick and Morgan Spencer both try to help Noelle heal and eventually both develop feelings for her. Noelle must choose between the brothers, but also deal with her feelings about God in order to find the healing she so desperately craves.

I thoroughly enjoyed A Rush of Wings!!! The author does a fantastic job of telling a romantic story that keeps you in suspense until the very end. The characters really come alive and their emotions were so real. The entire book points readers to faith in Christ in a way that is neither cheesy nor unrealistic. Rick finds joy in his faith but also struggles to trust in Christ in the midst of struggle. Noelle has a complete disdain for the faith of Rick's family and alternates between curiosity, disgust, unbelief, and awe of the God that they worship. I was truly sad to get to the end of this book and am already in search of another book by Kristen Heitzmann (perhaps The Still of Night, which follows up on Rick's brother?)! Bethany House is quickly becoming my favorite resource for new Christian fiction!

Note: This book was originally published in 2003 and was re-published with a new cover in 2010.

I know that I have recently given positive feedback on all of my recent Christian realistic fiction reads, but I do have to say.... Kristen Heitzmann's novel, "A Rush of Wings", is definitely the best one I've read so far!!

This romantic suspense novel took a little bit longer than I had expected to get me to the plot's climax, but it was well worth the wait. Heitzmann keeps her readers engaged by switching the focus from her main character, Noelle St. Claire, to her cast of supporting characters, and in turn keeps the reader asking, "How is this going to affect Noelle? What's going to happen next?"

I love how Heitzmann incorporates the gift of love into her story. Not only does she show how important the gift of love (in all of its forms) is to a person no matter what their economic, social, or religious status, but she also demonstrates how God's love can be shown to others through Jesus and through us.

If you are into Christian contemporary fiction or would like to engage in an exciting romantic suspense novel, I encourage you to add A Rush of Wings to your to-read list!! With that being said, let me leave you with this verse: "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

Beautiful, privileged, wealthy Noelle St. Claire flees her father's estate in New York after her fiancée's abusive behavior. This also stirs up frightening memories that leave her paralyzed with fear, but she cannot remember what happened to her in the past. She finds herself at a Colorado dude ranch where owner Rick Spencer sensing her brokenness allows her to stay. The beautiful surroundings, and Rick's kindness helps Noelle find the peace and security she was missing. Morgan, Rick's brother, pursues Noelle immediately causing her mixed emotions of friendship and panic. Morgan's impulsive wild life style is the direct opposite of Rick's devoted Christian life. As Noelle runs from her problems and God, Rick tries to introduce her to the love of His Savior.

This was a wonderful book! I could read it again I liked it so much. The plot was excellent. I especially liked Rick's example of a devout Christian and hia dependence on God. Seeing him go through difficult times that tested his faith was encouraging to me. This is an entertaining and beautiful story with the message of God's love, not only for His children, but also how He works through their lives to reach those without Him. I also liked the fact that there were so many references to scriptural principles, prayer, and commitment. A 5 star book without a doubt!!

In exchange for my honest review, I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishers.

Kristen Heitzmann had me hooked from her very first paragraph of "A Rush of Wings." Noelle is fearful, but of what she is not completely sure and she is not sure where this fear stems from. Noelle is searching for answers and also running from being controlled by the men in her life, most specifically her fiancee Michael who became physically harmful to me. Noelle finds herself taking buses to anywhere that will be far from home and lands at a ranch in a small town. Always loving horses, Noelle is drawn to the beautiful creatures at the ranch and this allows her to forge a friendship with the ranch owner Rick. Images and memories continue to immerse and flood Noelle's mind, but she struggles to piece them together. Through many trials and spending time with Rick, his brother Morgan and their family, Noelle discovers that she is missing out on something in her life that is important to the majority of this family - faith in God. But, why do all of these memories have "God" in them and why does He cause her more fear?

The reader is taken along on a journey with Noelle to sort through these thoughts and memories. I like that I was learning and reliving these along with Noelle and the past and fears were not revealed to me initially. This added to the suspense and also allowed me to really empathize with Noelle. The character development was great in this novel. Noelle begins as a rich, yet fearful twenty-three year-old who has lived in a secure environment with friends hand-picked for her. Noelle sets out on her own with little money and develops her talents and strengths in order to survive and really find herself. One of my favorite parts of the novel is the time that Noelle spends with the Spencer family at their home. The family is very real with their relationships with each other and how they accept Noelle into their lives and at times some are also wary of her. I would recommend this book to any fiction reader!!!

Though her panic is real, Noelle St. Claire is uncertain what danger she is fleeing. Fragmented images and slivers of memory have driven her to abandon her wealthy, sheltered life in New York for the hope of a haven-remote and safe.

Noelle's arrival at the Rocky Mountain horse ranch owned by Rick Spencer and his brother Morgan causes more than a little stir. Beautiful, vulnerable, yet strangely secretive, Noelle is an enigma the two contrasting brothers seek to unlock. But as their attentions breach the wall she hides behind, the past becomes a menacing threat from which Noelle can no longer hide.

Kristen Heitzmann does a great job of pulling you into the story. The reader has no clue what is going on in Noelle's life and has to keep reading to figure out what is going on in her head. Here is a prime example of someone who is seeking for relief and peace, but can't find it because she's looking in all the wrong places. God is the only comfort and person who can fill that hole in her life.

I loved this book. I appreciated the fact that Heitzmann shows us the struggle that is in each of us as we seek to find God in all of our lives. All we have to do is turn back to God and find the strength that we need to get through each day.
