I recently finished reading the 2nd book in Tracie Peterson's "Lone Star Brides" series--"A Moment in Time". This was another excellently written book in the Texas series that not only entertained, but it also informed as it was filled with many historical references.

The book started off quickly picking up where the 1st in the series left off, but it was very informative as it filled in the blanks for the reader of what had previously transpired. The plot line wasn't as fast-paced and "dangerous" as the previous, though there were a couple moments. However, there were some important familial reckonings that needed to take place.

As is typical of Tracie Peterson's novel, and most especially the bloodline of Marty (namely Hannah), there were very strong female characters throughout who weren't intimidated by danger. These were women who fully embraced the strength they possessed from God and acted accordingly.

I love clean romances that are brimming over with high virtues and morals, and this one did not disappoint. There were common struggles to be sure, but beautiful triumphs throughout. Books such as these help one to grown in faith as well. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

When Alice Chesterfield's family is broken apart and she suffers an attack in which her father is killed, her hope is also killed. She carries a physical scar from the attack, but the emotional scars that she bears are traumatic. Her father had secrets that brought ruin to them. The attacker continues to pursue her, demanding what she does not have to give. Left with nothing but memories and unanswered questions, she accepts the offer of a new life in Texas, in the hope that she can escape the assailant's threats. She boards a train with her friend Marty, who is moving back to her family's ranch. There she meets an intriguing man that may bring a life with everything she dreams of, but he is seemingly spoken for. This story of tragedy and its aftermath is well written and realistic. Tracy Peterson has spun a tale of hurt and forgiveness that pictures what happens when we get in God's way and what wonderful things can happen when we step back and wait for our Heavenly Father to work in His most perfect time. A Moment in Time is a gentle reminder that allows the reader to ponder the gift of grace and forgiveness and how we must give ourselves, as well as others in our life, those gifts. It is easy to read and has enough depth that I was eager to keep reading. This is Book #2 of the Lone Star Brides saga. I think I should read the first book in this series! I can highly recommend this and I give it five stars!

I received a copy of this book free of charge from Bethany House, a division of Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review. This review is my opinion.

"A Moment in Time" by Tracie Peterson once again takes us to 1893 Colorado. In "A Sensible Arrangement" Marty Olson travelled to Colorado to be a mail order bride for Jake Wythe. Jake ran the bank there and had a good job but needed a wife. The two fell in love despite the both of them fighting their feelings for each other. Now it seems that their time in Colorado has come to an end and they must move back to Texas. Jake leaves Marty and her former maid, Alice, in Denver while he secures a job in Texas. Marty has no desire to return to Texas but she longs for her husband. Alice is still fighting demons from an attack that left her scarred and is eager for a new life elsewhere. She believes that she is all alone in this world and will never find a man to love her. Eventually the two women make their way to Texas and return to Marty's family and to Jake. Upon arriving at the Barnett ranch Alice meets Marty's nephew Robert and it is love at first sight for the both of them. But others have different plans for Robert and he must convince Alice she is the woman for him. Will they all put their trust in God to see them through?

This is a sweet romance that you will not want to put down. Tracie Peterson writes amazing historical stories that draw her readers in and make them long for more. We see the main characters struggle with their fears and problems and we see how they each turn to God for His guidance. You will want to read "A Sensible Arrangement" first for more of Marty and Alice's story. I also highly recommend reading the Land of the Lone Star trilogy, "Chasing the Sun", "Touching the Sky", and "Taming the Wind", as those characters are in this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Bethany House Publishers.

I found this one rather hard to get on with. Although I guess it could have been read alone, I found it to be a very direct continuation of "A Sensible Arrangement," following Marty and Jake as much or more than Alice and Robert, who were apparently the main characters. They seemed more of a secondary couple to the original storyline, which is fine for a series, although unexpected from the back cover description. I also found it rather slow going to begin with - lots of preliminary story lines and details. However, I did enjoy reading Alice and Robert's story once it got going, and will enjoy tying up the loose ends in the series finale.

This is the second book in the Lone Star Brides series. This book focuses on Alice Chesterfields story but includes further details about Jake and Marty. Alice was introduced in the first book as Marty Olsons maid. The two have grown close and become like sisters. Hard times have fallen in Colorado and Martys husband Jake decides it is best if they move back to Texas. He leaves Marty and Alice behind until her can get established there.

During their time in Colorado, Alice discovers secrets from her past and is unsure how to handle the news she has been given. Shortly after finding out this information, Jake sends money for them to travel to Texas. Although Marty still does not want to move to Texas, Alice is relieved as she believes it will be a new start for her. While in Texas Alice is introduced to Robert, Martys nephew. She quickly falls for him but withholds her feelings as he is promised to another girl, Jessica. What will Alice do as she does not want to come in between the man she loves and Jessica? How will Alice handle more secrets that are discovered from her past?

I really enjoyed this book as it began where the last book ended. I enjoyed learning more about Alice and seeing Martys story played out. I also loved reading about Martys family and their neighbors working together to help each other out. Unlike other series books that I have read, I believe it is best to read the first book in this series. The author does include some information so a reader would have a sense of what is going on but there are so many details provided in the first book. Many unanswered questions from the first book are answered but not all of them. Hopefully they will be answered in the third book, A Matter of Heart, due out in October 2014.
