I probably would have never had a set of Matthew Henry Commentaries had I not been told of these on Christianbook.com. The price is fantastic. The only complaint I have is with the quality of paper used. If higher quality paper would drive up the price however, the paper quality is not that important.
"First among the mighty for general usefulness we are bound to mention the man whose name is a household word, Matthew Henry. He is most pious and pithy, sound and sensible, suggestive and sober, terse and trustworthy. You will find him to be glittering with metaphors, rich in analogies, overflowing with illustrations, superabundant in reflections....
....His is a kind of commentary to be placed where I saw it, in the old meeting-house at Chester--chained in the vestry for anybody and everybody to read. It is the poor man's commentary, the old Christian's companion, suitable to everybody, instructive to all."
I really like these volumes, they are quite nice for the price. Matthew Henry commented at a time, before there were so many conflicting denominational interpretations. I find his comments, to conform to a hermitical interpretation of the scriptures. And are right in line, with a non biased reading of the Bible.
I also like that the text of the KJV is included, unlike the one volume version, and the print is a much more readable size. So in my opinion, if you want the best commentary going, get yourself one of these sets.
