MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5An Inspiring Read from a Favorite AuthorJune 8, 2016MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Gift of Love by Amy Clipston is powerful in this book of her biography/memoir. I was caught up in the story from the start as Amy grabbed my attention with being sandwiched between two semi trucks in an accident. Her guardian angel was watching out for Amy and had a purpose for sparing her life.
Amy goes back to her childhood, meeting the love of her life and other events that created a beautiful story of a lady who knows where her strength, love, hope, peace, joy and help comes from at all times with her source being in her Savior Jesus Christ. I appreciate Amy being open about her feelings and thoughts as some Christians want to sugarcoat their true emotions and thinking pattern. Amy give readers full detail of Joseph Clipston's health issues, struggles and eventually being paired for a kidney swap at John Hopkins Hospital. Amy's determination to save her husband's life showed true sacrificial love just as her Savior had shown her. Readers will be encouraged, strengthen, and inspired to love unconditionally their spouse and other at all times no matter the circumstance.
Amy ended the book with encouraging others to be an organ and blood donor. I'm glad I can say I'm a regular blood donor and have signed to be an organ donor. I appreciate Amy sharing your story openly to the public. God bless you, Joe, Zachary, Matthew and your mothers along with your paired kidney swap couple with many years of health, happiness and the blessings of God.
GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Love Is the Best GiftJanuary 6, 2016GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a wonderful true story about the love of a woman for her husband and her desire to see him whole again. I could relate in part because my wife has had at least two life-threatening events and I know what it was like to go through those with her. This story is rather intense because they had to deal with her husbands kidney disease for a total of more than ten years. While they dealt with so much pain, suffering, heartache, stress, and difficulty, it is also a story of hope and awareness. Life is sometimes a little easier to take when we pick up a book like this one and learn that we arent the only ones to ever face a problem. The book also helps to raise the awareness and importance of blood and organ donations. The author shares freely of their faith in God and dependence on prayer. I highly recommend this book. It is well worth the few hours that it takes to read.

Wow! Amy sure knows how to grab your attention! Just when I opened the book, thinking Im going to begin reading about how she donated one of her kidneys so her husband could receive a donated kidney from another source, instead Im drawn into her account of when she was in a car accident, involving not one, but two tractor trailers!
Whoa! Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place Amy was caught between two tractor trailers.
It was a miracle that she left the hospital a few hours later, with no broken bones only painful bruises and a few cuts and scrapes. Amy believes it was no coincidence; it was divine intervention. God was watching out for her and her kidneys so a few years later she could donate one of her kidneys and help to save her husbands life.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to read this book. Amy goes back and describes how she grew up and how she met Joe, her husband, and his health issues.
It is an amazing story the terrible moments they shared, the pain, the harsh realities, and when Joe experienced good health after the second transplant, the joys they shared as a family once again.
If you cannot buy this book, get a copy at your local public library, and read it. I finished it, praising God and thanking Him for answering their prayers.
And if you feel led consider being a blood donor and/or an organ donor. Im a registered organ donor (upon my death) and Im surprised at people who dont want to donate organs when they die. This is something you can do when you no longer need your organs, and they could make a huge difference in the lives of others.
Amy, Im praying with you, for Joe (and for your donor recipient) to continue experiencing good health for their kidneys to last a good, long time (30 years sounds about right).
I was blessed to receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is an exceptional story and one you do NOT want to miss!

The Gift of Love, written by Amy Clipston, is the memoir of her journey of caretaker and organ donor. The devastating news of her husband's illness happened soon after there marriage. This is a story about waiting. Waiting on God. Waiting for Him to answer. Waiting for Him to move. This deep pit that the entire family went through was tremendous. Just when you think it's getting better, more downward spirals. But through it all God gives wisdom and guidance and the body of Christ.
But as Mrs. Clipston reminds us in the story, God is the sustainer of their faith. As I read this book, you could feel the emotion jump off the pages. The author is real and authentic. Emotions range from depression to anger and back to trust. These are the stories that make me once again thankful for trials.
James 1:2-4 reminds us that the trials in our lives are producing in us the endurance that will aim others to glorify God. This is the story of the Clipston's lives.

The 200-plus pages of this book make for a very quick read. The story is written in such a way that leaves you feeling like you've just sat down and had a long conversation with a friend. Amy comes across as very honest about the details -- big and small -- and her feelings -- good and bad. The story shows real people, with real problems and real questions, persevering with real faith. Their journey is an inspiration for others to press on while waiting for God to work things out in His timing.
The Gift of Love is a touching story sure to be enjoyed by fans of Amy's Amish fiction and by anyone affected by severe illness or organ donation.
