    Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate

    Moses Lake, Texas Book 3

Unlike her four older, married sisters, Mallory Hale wanted to be independent and make her own decisions. Not catering to the wants and needs of a husband. She was working in DC at The Hill, making her own path in the political world, like her dad. The day she ran into Daniel Webster Everson, literally, changed her life and it quickly became an adventure.

The story is told from Mallory's view. A city girl born and raised, used to the trappings and business of DC, who finds herself in the quiet town of Moses Lake, Texas. The most exciting store being a Walmart the next town over. The reader follows along as she deals with creepy crawly critters, becoming a mom, a wife and a frontier woman. She meets unique people from the small town and faces the fact that she is snobbish from her upbringing. Rumors about her husband's boss has her wanting to flee back to the world she knows.

There were so many great twists and turns in this book. People being more than they seemed at first glance. And lessons of life, how one person can really make a difference in peoples lives.

Small towns, love, humor, a touch of mystery; they are the components that I have come to associate with Lisa Wingate's novels. "Firefly Island" delivers each element in an absorbing novel set in the small town of Moses Lake, Texas. Wingate's portrayal of small towns with a collection of interesting residents never fails to charm me. In her latest novel, readers see Moses Lake through the perspective of Mallory, a self-professed city girl.

My interest was piqued from the first page and remained captured through each chapter. The novel begins with Mallory's reflections on the past year of her life as she writes a news story for CNN. It is clear that something significant happened, and the questions build as Mallory relays her story of a whirlwind marriage and life on an isolated ranch with its fair share of history and mystery. "Firefly Island" is told solely from Mallory's perspective. Wingate masterfully conveys Mallory's doubts, fears, struggles, and personal growth. The range of emotions is wide and deep, but I related to each of them. Mallory's emotions remind me of what I might feel if I found myself in a situation similar to hers. I connected with Mallory as I shared her questions about the motives of other characters and the potentially dark secrets surrounding the ranch.

Mallory's growth as a mother provide some of the most touching scenes. The love story that exists between Mallory and Daniel takes a back seat to the bond of love that builds between Mallory and Nick. After spending over 300 pages completely absorbed in "Firefly Island," I was a bit let down by the conclusion. Although each issue is resolved and the mysteries are answered, I felt that the ending was too quick. The last scene fast forwards to Mallory's CNN interview and her recollection of how the mystery of Jack West was finally uncovered.

"Firefly Island" is my favorite of Lisa Wingate's novels set in Moses Lake, Texas. Some characters from the previous books make appearances and add to the small-town charm. I highly recommend "Firefly Island" to new and past "visitors" to Moses Lake.

This is a book that you don't want to end but is so hard to put down that you reach the end altogether too quickly. Absorbed in her prestigious and exciting career as a congressional aide in Washington DC, Mallory Hale is hurrying across the Capitol Building when the stack of papers she is carrying slip from her grasp and spreads over the marble floor. She hurries to gather the the papers so as not to appear unprofessional. A masculine voice interrupts her embarrassment to offer help. Her eyes meet Daniel's and she falls hopelessly in love.

This is a wonderful romance but what really held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat was the mystery and political intrigue and how a small town in the middle of Texas becomes tied into the position Mallory once held in Washington DC.

Mallory Hale's career, her romance, adjusting to life in small Texas town, a rundown ranch house in the middle of nowhere and what she uncovers while her husband is working for a wealthy Texan as a biochemist are woven together beautifully by author, Lisa Wingate. In my opinion, it is a good book that can draw you in and make you feel that you are so much a part of the story that you forget that you are even reading. This is that kind of story.

I received a complimentary copy of "Firefly Island" as part of a book review program with Bethant House Publishers.

I just finished reading Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate. This is my first Wingate book, but it won't be my last. I am now on the lookout for more books by her starting with Tending Roses (Tending Roses Series, Book 1). By the way, you don't have to read these in order. I didn't know this was part of a series until I wrote this review.

Firefly Island is a fast read. Seriously, you just can't put it down! I intended to read it over a holiday, but ended up reading until late at night to finish it in one sitting. It has romance, mystery, and a satisfying ending. The story is clean and inspirational, but not preachy. It's Christian fiction at its best. LOVED IT!

Note: Bethany House publishers provided me this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate is a must read book! Her characters were so real. I love how she addresses things with marriage, too. The give and take needed, trusting your spouse, adjusting to a new life in a new place. The story was so believable. And she threw in a bit of mystery, too. :-)

Mallory Hale works on Capitol Hill. That's where she literally bumped into Daniel Everson. They started dating, and when he got offered a job in Moses Lake, Texas he asked her to marry him. To start a new life with him and his three year old son, Nick. So after knowing each other for a month, they hurriedly get married, pack all their stuff and drive for three long days to their new home. But the house they were offered was a mess. Vermin everywhere. And Daniel's boss, Jack West, doesn't seem to care. Who is this man really? Why is he so secretive with his business ideas? From the get go, Mallory is suspicious of him.

As Mallory tries to adjust to small town life in Texas, she begins to grow up and become less selfish. She begins a blog called "The Frontier Woman" that is a huge success, and makes friends with two unlikely women who help her see things she never thought of before. But when disaster strikes will Mallory run back to D.C. or stay and fight for her new home?

I can't say enough good things about this book. It was very well-written, and I didn't want to put it down! I wanted to know how Mallory adjusted to her new life, how she would handle all the new things thrown her way, and if she would she change. You have got to read it!!!

I was given this book free from Bethany House as long as I review it.
