Exciting reading. I am sure there is a lot of this intrigue actually happening in the middle east. Much of what happens is not reported on.

Damascus Countdown was the first of Joel Rosenberg's books I have read. I was impressed with the relevance of his story as he wrote of end time events involving Israel, Iran, Syria, the USA, CIA, and top scientists as well as Islamic religious leaders. This is an intriguing and suspenseful novel as the threat of nuclear war is being posed against Israel. A key character, David Shirazi, works tirelessly with his team to locate missing nuclear warheads to hopefully avoid their devastating use. He seeks to thwart the plans of the enemy and gain information by infiltrating their inner circles as one of them. He has times of failure when he and his team are getting nowhere; his contacts in the inner circle fail to respond; all seems futile. The agencies of espionage in Israel and the USA work continuously to gather information to help and protect their agents. The blind faith of those who look for Islam's messiah in the Mahdi is portrayed as they stop at nothing to succeed. The coldhearted executions that take place when someone is suspected of being a traitor is quite unsettling. Then the counter to this is the great faith in the true Messiah, Jesus Christ. Many of the characters are faithful followers of Him. There are many testimonies to Him and His saving grace; witness made to those who need Him who are facing certain death. The personal side of David's life and others is also portrayed as Rosenberg shares the emotional ties to family and friends; and one special lady in particular. Timing is everything for all the events and the story holds your attention aptly. Also it unfolds with great attention to detail as the attacks/battles of the war are described. A great read! Amazing how it ties in with our current history as Israel is in the center of our news today. A very probable story, indeed.

Suspenseful and riveting. Edge-of-your-seat intense. One certain to fight to hang in there with because it was well worth it. Reads like the makings of a really good television drama show. Only wish I read faster. Although, in the last 20 some last of the chapters, I did read in a blur, wanting to hurry and see the events unfold as quickly as possible. Exciting and easy to follow and understand. Engaging. Eerily frightening. Surprisingly heartfelt, compassionate, emphatic, and sincere but not too emotional. Very detailed and specific, but not overly done. Believable, realistic and likely. Encourages the heart to open up about God's overall possibilities for us. A book I am grateful to have jumped into!

Fasten your seatbelts before starting this book! The beginning is a little hard to completely follow - I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in a series when I began - but after the first few pages it is a book you can't set down! What will David do next? Will he save the day and keep Israel from being leveled by a nuclear warhead? I have recently heard a lot about drones in the news - I had no idea they could do so much. But I loved how real Birjandi seemed - though blind and old, he continued to study and preach god's word and was just so faithful. And I so identified with David when he realized he was in a life and death situation and had never told his buddies about Christ - I'm not in that situation but I don't think to ask those around me if they know where they will be if they died now. Excellent book! I can't wait to read Mr. Rosenberg's next book.

Damascus Countdown is the third and final book in the riveting political series by Joel C. Rosenburg. Immediately after it was released I checked our local library and put it on hold. It was so popular I was about the fifth in line. In the meantime I reread the other two in the series The Twelfth Imam and The Tehran Initiative (click the book titles for my reviews of those books). I just love this series. It reads like our current headlines and is so riveting. If you enjoy political action packed books this is the series for you.

Joel C. Rosenburg is a expert on the middle east and the volatile climate over there. He is known for writing fiction that eerily mirrors the real world. In Damascus Countdown David Shizari continues to hunt down the nuclear warheads that Iran has acquired before Israel and the US are obliterated. With more twists and turns than a country road this book will have you on the edge of your seat. I can't recommend them highly enough. You will not be disappointed. :)
