Kathy5 Stars Out Of 5Bright Ideas in Science CurriculumJanuary 14, 2016KathyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Christian Kids Explore Chemistry is authored by husband and wife team, Robert W. Ridlon, Jr. and Elizabeth J. Ridlon. Their approach to teaching chemistry is simplistic: Each of our lessons develops a progressive understanding of chemistry that will build confidence. Kids and parents can explore and develop a firm and lasting foundation for the future. The curriculum presents the concepts of chemistry from a Christian worldview perspective.
Christian Kids Explore Chemistry contains 30 lessons and five unit reviews which cover the topic of chemistry. The curriculum is comprised of the following components:
A Note from the Author
How to Use This Book
Unit One
The Basics of Chemistry: Introduction to Chemistry; Chemistry Tools; Matter; Elements; Mixtures and Compounds; Wrap Up
Unit Two
Atoms and Molecules: Atoms; Atomic Number; Atomic Mass; Periodic Table; Molecules; Wrap Up
Unit Three
The Nature of Chemistry: Chemical Bonds; More Chemical Bonds; Formulas; Naming Compounds; Reactions; Acids; Bases; Salts; Wrap Up
Unit Four
States of Matter: Solids and Liquids; Gases; Gas Laws; State Change; Solutions; Wrap Up
Unit Five
Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons; Alkanes; Alkenes; Alkynes; Alcohols; Esters; Biochemistry; Wrap Up
The curriculum also includes: Glossary, Coloring Pages, Element Tables, Resource List, For Further Biographical Study, Answer Keys, Index and About the Authors.
Each lesson unit introduces the topic with a unit timeline, vocabulary words, and materials needed for the unit. The lesson itself is made up of two building blocks: Teaching Time and Hands on Time. I would highly recommend purchasing the resource cd download which contains the reproducible pages in the back of the text.
Overall, we have been pleased with this curriculum as it lends itself to the Classical Education and Charlotte Mason philosophies. Scientific concepts are presented in an engaging and easy to understand manner. This allows the student to build upon their interest through research and scientific experimentation. In the fall of 2015, our child is looking forward to utilizing the next book in this series Christian Kids Explore Physics.

The lessons are just long enough and the experiments are easy to complete. We are all learning a lot and will most likely continue with this series once we finish chemistry.

mama erin5 Stars Out Of 5exceeded my expectationsAugust 6, 2018mama erinQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Got this to supplement another chemistry course. It is bigger and better than i expected!
Biblical creation worldview, great easy to understand text and lots of experiments! It would be great for any age.
To be read with younger students or a full credit for a highschooler that needs Chemistry with labs. Or as a great supplement for those of us who need a little help with Chemistry. -
