From Bestselling Authors David & Beverly Lewis

Flight instructor Jack Livingston has been raising his eight-year-old adopted niece, Natalie, since the accident that took her parents' lives. When he travels, Natalie is tenderly cared for by her Amish nanny, Laura Mast, who loves the little girl as her own.

Eight excruciating years ago, Kelly Maines's baby was kidnapped. Determined to find her child, Kelly has tirelessly pursued every lead to its bitter end. And now, with the clock ticking, one last clue from a private investigator ignites a tiny flame of hope: Just a few miles away lives a young girl who matches the profile.

Can this be, at long last, Kelly's beloved daughter?

    MY REVIEW

This wasn't ones typical Amish read as it doesn't take place amongst the Amish community. The only Amish connection in the book is the nanny, Laura. I never felt she was the main character in the story, and I never felt as if I knew or understood her. So, to me, the cover is a bit misleading! Do definitely don't judge this book by its cover! Although I enjoyed this book, don't expect it to be a typical Beverly Lewis read. It really is not in the Amish genre at all.

It does have a sweet story, though. Despite the fact that Natalie is spoiled, I still fell in love with her. Her quotes and dialogue are funny, sweet, and adorable. My favorite character by far is Jack. He is so committed to fulfilling his responsibility to Natalie that everything else comes second. His character was well written, and he was certainly beyond admirable and lovable.

This book doesn't always flow. At times it seems much is thrown in that doesn't add anything to the story. This wasn't a normal Lewis read that I couldn't put down. The ending is a typical sweet, happy ever after one, but it fell a bit flat for me. I think most readers of this genre, however, will be pleased with how everything turns out perfectly and in place.

Overall, this was a sweet enjoyable read, and I did like seeing Lewis stray from her typical Amish genre. The proving that any child, whether one gives birth to them or not, can become YOUR child was a great message of this book. It, in my opinion, was the best part of this read! I do recommend this book as it was enjoyable and had a great message.

I was given this book through the publisher for my honest opinion which I have given.

What lengths would you go to find your daughter if she was brutally kidnapped from you as an infant? I can't even begin to imagine the pain, the panic that would come from such an event.

"Child of Mine" has a fantastic premise and one I was curious to delve into. You think you have the book figured out about until about ¾ of the way through, but keep reading–it has a fantastic twist at the end. Though at times I was wondering when I was going to stop being redirected from what I thought was my ultimate destination.

The book was about one hundred pages too long. I felt there were moments when the tension could have been seized and was left to dangle without a purpose. I will admit at this point of the book, much as I wanted to take my time to enjoy, I did skim.

Besides the one hundred too many pages, Natalie is a doll. Laura is the complex Amish nanny that I truly didn't figure out until closer to the end of the book. And secondary characters play well against the story's backdrop. I appreciated that the romance between Jack and Kelly felt natural without the usual "drama" surrounding the breakup and getting back together of the typical contemporary romance. (smile)

All in all the plot is attractive. The writing good. The pacing a bit slow, but still a good story. Solid three stars.

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers for my copy to review.

Combining their efforts for a solidly entertaining read, husband and wife David and Beverly Lewis offer up an intriguing story in their latest book "Child of Mine". What would you do if your baby daughter was kidnapped? How long would you search before you gave up, if you did at all? Would you ever be able to move on? The authors have tackled this difficult "what if" scenario through the eyes of character Kelly Maine, and have done a wonderful job at dealing with something so heartbreaking while still having many light-hearted moments in the book. Kelly's story blends nicely with that of Jack Livingston and his niece, Natalie, and I enjoyed watching Jack and Kelly's relationship develop, along with Jack's relationship with nanny Laura as well. There were many unexpected twists and turns in this story where you are left pondering who is Kelly's long-lost daughter or who Jack will end up with. These mysterious elements kept the story moving along nicely, because I will say that I felt the book to be a bit detailed in some areas, to the point that the overall story did slow down. In fact, I would just be feeling tempted to skim ahead when another twist would show up, engaging me once again, and for this I commend the authors. I felt that the authors realistically portrayed Kelly's situation and I liked how they ended up resolving it, without a perfectly happy ending but rather one that reflects real life.

Those readers who have enjoyed previous books from these authors will find much to appreciate in "Child of Mine". I was left with a smile on my face, and I'm sure you will too. 3 out of 5 stars.

Story moved too slowly! This was not an Amish story as the book cover suggests.
