Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a wife, mom, and author of a biblical fiction series - The Wives of King David. The books in the series are: Michal: A Novel and Abigail: A Novel published with Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. The final book, Bathsheba, is coming in 2011. I'm currently working on the first book in the next series, The Wives of the Patriarchs. I love to travel, spend time with my family and friends, am a cat owner, aspiring Bible scholar, amateur historian, musician, and above all a follower of Jesus Christ.

What was your motivation behind this project?  After co-teaching a Bible study on King David, I wanted to read a novel that truly encompassed his life. I couldn't find one that satisfied, so began to write the book I longed to read. Twenty years later, we have a series that fulfills that long-ago desire.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  My greatest hope is that the people who read my biblical fiction will come away with a greater love of Scripture and a longing to better know the God who inspired men to pen His Word.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I tend to live the emotions of my characters. In the case of David's wives, I had several epiphanies while going through my own personal struggles, realizing that David or his wives might have felt as I did in whatever situation I was working on at that point. I had a greater empathy for them and was reminded yet again that the human condition does not change. We all face the same emotions and struggles despite the thousands of years that separate us.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  The Bible is my biggest influence and the first source I go to for inspiration. To understand the whole of Scripture gives me a better understanding of each character's life. I also use a lot of resource materials to get a feel for the times. I hate to name favorite authors because I have so many and am always adding new ones to the list. My favorite authors are those who craft a page-turning story that lets me live vicariously in another era and not want to leave when it ends. I want a story that is not predictable, that keeps me guessing until the last page, whose characters are so real I would want to meet them in real life. I want a story that makes me feel, that evokes some type of emotion in me be it tears or laughter or both. Authors who can pull me in and keep me thinking about their book so that I hate to put it down - they are my favorites.
