Lis Wiehl writes another thrilling crime drama that kept me turning pages! A Deadly Business is the second installment in the Mia Quinn Series. I couldn't put it down! The plot is fast moving and kept me up reading late into the night! With twists and turns, Lis Wiehl will keep you guessing until the very end.
It was nice catching up with Mia, Charlie, Eli, and Mia's children. As Mia struggles to find ground in her newly single life, shocking revelations about her past knock the ground out from under her. Charlie and Eli would love to pick up the pieces, but Mia's not ready yet. I'll be interested to see what comes from that "love triangle"!
Mia is struggling to find her faith in this new reality she's been thrust into and she's finding it hard to trust. The aspect of the Christian faith was there, lurking in the background of Mia's choices and decisions, but I don't think she's come to terms with it yet.
Overall, I was highly satisfied with this book and I can't wait to read the next one as the Mia story continues!

Lis Wiehl with April Henry in their new book, A Deadly Business Book Two in the Mia Quinn Mystery series published by Thomas Nelson gives us another adventure with Mia Quinn.
From the inside jacket flap: A prosecutor of violent criminals. A detective on a dangerous beat. When these two pros take on an off-the-books case, the line between professional and personal becomes perilously blurred.
When a twenty-two-year-old convict walks into the courtroom, his eyes confirm what Mia Quinn already guesses: he blames her for his conviction. In seconds, he knocks her to the ground and holds a razor blade to her throat. While she manages to escape without injury, its just one more reminder that Mias job prosecuting Seattles s most dangerous criminals is far from low risk.
As a single mom, the last thing Mia wants is for her work to follow her home or discover that it already has.
Now Detective Charlie Carlson is suggesting the very thing Mia doesnt want to believethat her accountant husbands deadly car accident was no accident at all. When Mia and Charlie encounter resistance to reopening the case, they take the investigation into their own hands. And they find much more than they bargained for.
Was Mias husband more than an accountant . . . and less than an honest man? As the truth becomes more shocking and the case grows more complex, her husbands killers take note of Mia . . . and her children. How far will this prosecutor go to learn the truth about her husbandand how far will she have to go to protect her family?
It begins with an attack on Mia in the courtroom and then the story escalates from there. Mia is then given this case of three teens that did a horrible act and she has to decide whether to try them as adults or not. Also Charlie feels that Mias husband may actually have been murdered. Two investigations for the price of one! I needed Mia and Charlie to figure out the outcome of both investigations because I sure couldnt. A Deadly Business is an excellent murder mystery filled with marvelous characters, great plot twists, suspense and thrills. This is an exciting book, extremely well paced and suspenseful. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next book.

A page-turning legal thriller. It is a gritty read, even grisly at times, as tension and danger and unsolved mysteries abound. I was reeling by the end, left gasping for breath as Mia hurdles into sinister danger at a break neck speed. I appreciated the fascinating legal details liberally peppered throughout. The only thing missing from this edgy read was a viable inspirational thread. Don't get me wrong, the story is good but I read Christian fiction for a reason and with a Christian publisher of this caliber, well, I was left surprised at the lack of a solid inspirational element.
My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for a review copy of this book.
I have read all of Lis Wiehls fiction books and have enjoyed all of them, and this second entry in the Mia Quinn series is no exception. The story is set in Seattle, Washington. This time there are two cases being explored at the same time, one officially and one unofficially.
Mia is a prosecutor of violent criminals in Seattle. She also is a widow for seven months now. Three teens commit a crime and it is up to Mia to decide whether to charge them as juveniles or adults. Assigned to work with her on the case is homicide detective Charlie Carlson. As they begin to question teachers and family members of the teens, more questions are raised than answers provided. The sole decision for the future of these teens lives rests with Mia. Her boss is up for re-election and has been taking a pounding on being too lenient with criminals. He has left the decision up to Mia and will support her, but he might lose the election depending on how these teens are tried. No pressure, right?
Also, Charlie has been looking into the death of Mias husband. Her husband was killed in a one-car accident with alcohol a contributing factor according to the official report. As Charlie digs deeper, more and more inconsistencies arise. As Mia is forced to look deeper into her husbands life, more and more deception is discovered. Did Mia even really know this man she was married to for so long? With this poking and prodding, someone becomes uncomfortable and targets Mia.
I really like Lis writing style; it draws me into her stories right away. There is plenty of action and tension in this legal/detective thriller to keep readers engaged page after page. I also liked the potential new romantic interests in Mias future perhaps. She also is so relatable to as a working mom, trying to keep her life together as well as the lives of her children, and sometimes failing. This is a great series so far and I look forward to what happens next in Mias life. Keep up the good work, Lis!
" A Deadly Business" is written by best selling author Lis Wiehl. It is the second book in a new series of Mia Quinn Mysteries. The book opens with a life threatening court scene and the excitement continues throughout the book. It is a real page turner.
There four main threads throughout the book. One is the court case Mia and Charlie is working on. The difficult decision Mia has to make is to try in court two teenage boys as adults or juveniles. The choice is harder because Mia works for the District Attorney and it is election time. The District Attorney's office is already being accused of being soft on crime.
Another thread is trying to find out if Mia's husband was killed or had an accident. Her and Charlie are doing some investigative work on their own when the local police refuse to reopen the case after seven months.
Then Mia has two men interested in her. There is Charlie the homicide detective and Eli a public defender lawyer. Which one will she choose if either. You will have to stay with the series to find out.
The last and most important thread is of Mia trying to raise two child by herself after their father's death.
All of this leads to a very busy life for Mia Quinn. I think you will really enjoy the book. And as far as the mystery goes, you will not find out the answers to your questions until the end.
