I was surprised that this book had a rather low overall rating in the reviews, since I have been enjoying it and learning a great deal from it. Having been raised a Christian and hearing the OT and NT stories my whole life, for me this has been one of those 'epiphany moment' books more than once. I have been reading my Bible right along with it, whereas none of the other reviewers mention that, so maybe that is the difference.

One reviewer said it left her wanting more. Well, isn't that the whole idea! I don't think this book was meant to give all the answers but to be used as a short devotional and whet your appetite for more of God's Word. You'll never find all the answers in one book other than the Bible.

Some of the days entries were not as interesting as others, but I consider that as personal individuality of what one finds interesting, so that aspect of the book didn't turn me off.

All in all, I liked the book, found it educational and well written. I would definitely recommend it to others. In fact I already have on Facebook.

We, me and my wife, are using this book as a converstation starter before our prayer time. The conversation can be short sometimes as some of the entries are not that satisfying or just feel flat. Maybe it's our mood sometimes or maybe we are not getting what we expected from the book. However, there are other nights that we get an almost custom made spiritual fit. So we have decided to read and pray on, instead of setting the book aside.

The subject of this book has been of interest to me the last few years. I was hoping for more but the more I read and catch Ms. Guthrie's style the better it gets.

This is an important and neglected area of study because it is hard to understand the New Testament with out knowledge of the Old. Learning the Old Testament as more than a bunch of stories enhances the New Testament by bringing a better understanding of what Jesus is saying to his own audience. Lots of amazing insights result.

I am glad I purchased this book and will recommend it to others.

Sending Jesus to Earth was God's glorious plan A. From Genesis to Malachi, God set the stage for the coming of our Savior. In every story of every Old Testament book, in every regulation, task and duty, God was preparing His people to meet the only One who could save them.

In her introduction to "The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament," Nancy Guthrie explains that for most of her life, as for most of us, the Old Testament was taught as a series of faith stories and life lessons and the prophecies concerning Christ were the only places Jesus appeared. In reality, the Old Testament is preparing us to understand who He is and what He came to do.

This one year journey will take you through the Pentateuch, the Historical Books, Poetry and Wisdom and the Major and Minor Prophets. This is a perfect devotional for 2011 and a perfect opportunity to read through the Old Testament slow enough to discover hidden secrets and revealed truths you may have missed in a hurried reading or a skimming over. After all, God intended for us to read the Bible as a whole. Old familiar stories will come to life as you read about the true Manna from Heaven and the true Living Water and the Rock.

Christ lives in the Old Testament. He's not just an afterthought as a result of man's sin. He was with God during the creation of the world and He will be with God at the end of the world.

"Discovering Jesus" will make a perfect Christmas gift and will be the gift that keeps on giving throughout the year. If you are trying to find the perfect material for your quiet time or your Bible study, Guthrie's book should be on your list.
