When I order books for our church library from Christian book, I always check the comments to decided if I want to order it. I know Wanda Brunstetter's books have been Amish. Wanda Brunstetter really outdid herself in 'Woman of courage". I was unable to put it down. At the time when Jim died, I was a little disappointed. She did a wonderful job at the end of the book, in tying all the character together, even the dog and the bird. Bringing it all to a happy ending..

In Woman of Courage, Wanda Brunstetter has penned an amazing, historical fiction novel of two women's brave quest through the perilous wilderness -- where dangers of wild animals, savage Indians, immoral men, and inclement weather jeopardize them on every hand.

After her fiance rejects her the night before her wedding, Amanda Pearson, a lovely young Quaker, sets off with her father on a journey through the wilderness to be a missionary to the Nez Perce Indians. On the trail Amanda is nursed back to health by Mary, an Indian woman who was kidnapped by the Blackfoot tribe years earlier. Mary is desperate to get back to her people, the Nez Perce, and together with babies in tow, they begin the long trek through the perilous, savage frontier. Amongst the dangers on the trail, Amanda finds herself engulfed in another that threatens to take her soul...a romance with a half-breed who is not of her faith.

I have read Ms. Brunstetter's Amish fiction, so when she wrote a well researched historical I was quite blown away! This exciting story of faith, hope, courage, and redemption is her best work in my opinion, and a must read for all lovers of historical fiction!

    Woman of Courage

On a cold wintery day, I found this book delightful and was drawn into the story very quickly. I couldn't put the book down. Courageous, stubborn, yet faithful to her calling Amanda is determined to share the gospel with the Nez Perce Indians. While on the journey from New York to the wilderness of the west Amanda is faced with many set backs. I identified with this story having spent some time on the mission field and encountered many obstacles in my journey. Amanda's heart for others to find the one true God is what drives her to endure the hard times.

Buck heart is hardened by his experience as a child at the hand of his step father. Buck comes to Amanda's rescue saving her life from the harsh elements of a storm. Despite this rescue Buck while intrigued with Amanda holds her values and love of God with disrespect.

This story is rich with character development and believable characters. The inner struggle of Buck is a real experience many have had. Amanda's strong yet vulnerable faith is tested many times. The Indians were depicted with compassion and integrity. Through this story I was able to peek inside the possible daily life of the Indians. I found it quite intriguing.

This book will not disappoint. It was a refreshing change from the usual Amish books that Wanda Brunstetter writes. Superb story telling from a gifted writer. I will recommend this novel to all of my friends.

Woman of Courage by Wanda Brunstetter is a great book. I love the storyline, the characters and that it talks about history in a story setting. That's the way I love to read about history through fiction. The author created a delightful tale that kept me interested from the beginning through the end. I've already wrapped a copy for my mom for Christmas because I know she will love this book just as much. I received this book from the publisher as a complimentary copy but was under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are strictly my own.

This is a great book, it's not about a Amish woman however, BUT you'll find much to love about this book to keep you turning pages and living her life with her. Amanda had a failed marriage, however, life goes on and she journeyed on a 3000 mile trip alone, the story is wonderful and shows the a woman of faith, courage and looking to God for help can end up with a happy life full of love.
