I just LOVE this series! When I Fall in Love is the third full-length novel in the Christiansen Family series. You could definitely read this book as a stand alone, but I believe you will miss out on a much richer reading experience if you do not read the full series.

This author just draws me in right from the beginning of each book in the series. The characters feel so real to me and I think of them when not reading the book. They are honestly the books that I want to pick up and start re-reading once I reach the end. They are really that good!

When I Fall in Love is not a lightweight novel full of rainbows and hearts. This story has lots of fun and sweet moments, yet deals with a very heavy topic. When I learned that the book was broaching this particular situation, I had a moment of worry about whether I could emotionally handle reading it. But, a couple of things convinced me to have faith and dive in: I didn't want to jump over one of the novels and miss out on the love story for one of the Christiansen siblings, and I just knew that Susan May Warren would not leave me hanging! I am so glad I read this book!

Grace and Max are such wonderful characters. These two people have different challenges they must face in life, and one huge issue they must face together that will decide whether they can embrace the love they have for each other. I also loved the side story that involves another Christiansen sibling, Casper, and a very lost young woman named Raina. The author set up quite the interesting story for these two and I look forward to reading their book!

I was left with a wonderful feeling at the end of this book and the truth that God loves us and holds us in the palm of his hand, no matter the earthly circumstances we may be dealing with.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

Susan May Warren in her new book When I Fall in Love Book Three in the Christiansen Family series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us into the life of Grace Christiansen.

From the back cover: Come home to the Christiansens, where faith and family meet real life.

Hawaii was the last place Grace Christiansen ever imagined shed vacation, much less fall in love. But when her family surprises her with a cooking retreat in paradise, she is pulledor maybe yankedaway from her predictable, safe life and thrown headfirst into the adventure of a lifetime.

Max Sharpe may make his living on the ice as a pro hockey player, but he feels most at home in the kitchen. Which is why he lives for the three-week culinary vacation he takes each year in Hawaii. Upon being paired with Grace for a cooking competition, Max finds himself drawn to her passion, confidence, and perseverance. But just when Grace dares to dream of a future beyond her hometown, Max pulls away.

Wrestling with personal demons, Max fights against opening his heart to a love he knows he should never hope for. And as his secrets unfold, Grace is torn between the safe path in front of her and what her heart truly desires. If love means sacrificing her ideal happily ever after, Graces faith will face its toughest test yet.

Hawaii, food and romance. Based on those ingredients you would think the book couldnt get any better but, I assure you, it does. I am a big fan of those cooking shows and would really enjoy going to a cooking adventure for three weeks. This way I could learn something. Grace has been given a gift to go to Hawaii for just such a course and Max is going for his third year. The family has put them together and this is when the adventure and the fun begins. I really enjoy the Christiansen Family. They are not perfect however they are interesting and I would have no problem having them as my friends. Ms. Warren does a superb job of making each character come alive so much that they seem as if they have been our friends all our lives. When I Fall in Love is a wonderful, sweet story with power and depth that will keep you flipping pages. I recommend this book highly and look forward to the next reunion with the Christiansen Family.

When I Fall In Love is a wonderful read, and an enjoyable return visit with the Christenson family. Of course, there are family conflicts, and Owen; the bad boy is still having a hard time. If you remember from the last book he was badly injured in a hockey brawl. He still has that chip on his shoulder, if you haven't read the previous two books in this series, I heartily recommend that you do, but information is given to get you up to date to read this one alone.

As the book opens Darek and Ivy have just begun their lives together, and we are planning the wedding [from the second book] of Eden and Jace. Grace, another sister, has just put on the reception for Derek and Ivy and the family has gifted her with a trip to Hawaii, nice gift!

We also have a sort of set up with Max Sharpe, another hockey player, he happens to be going to a three week, also in Hawaii, getaway of cooking, his other passion. He has so many daemons and I couldn't blame him, but living his faith, he needs to lean on God. God doesn't give us any guarantees and life is very fragile and can be gone in a moment, one never knows, thank goodness.

Is there a possible romance here? You can see the passion, and enjoy you time on the big Island, and then back to Minnesota. This is another page turning read by Ms. Warren, it deals with some very tough issues, and there are more than one. I personally cannot wait for the next book in this series!

The major plot in When I Fall in Love revolves around Grace Christiansen and Max Sharpe. Max is a right wing player for the St. Paul Blue Ox hockey team. He helped his team get into the division finals for the Stanley Cup. Owen Christiansen was one of his teammates before an accident took him out of the game permanently. Max has born the guilt of the outcome of that accident this past year, so when another teammate, Jase, asks his assistance for Owen's sister, whom he's never met, on a trip to Hawaii, he reluctantly agrees. He believes he owes it to Owen.

Grace Christiansen doesn't know Max or anything about Owen's accident. Her desire to become a chef is deeply ingrained in family tradition and comaraderie. She is a foodie and loves to cook for her large family. She has already applied to culinary academy and when her sister and future brother-in-law, Eden and Jase, asked her to go to Hawaii for a culinary course in Hawaiian cooking, she was hesitant but willing. She was going to cook a Hawaiian meal for their wedding.

Grace and Max somehow missed each other at the airport where they were supposed to meet, but it turns out they were seated next to each other (seats 9B and 9A). Grace hates to travel; when she sat down in the plane her nervousness was obvious to the passenger next to her. Max had no choice but to help her through the experience, especially when she got sick. They became friends before they realized Jase and Eden had set them up. But then they discover their love of cooking and the fun began until secrets Max was keeping complicated their relationship.

Relationships and family are an important ingredient in this book. There is back history, deep secrets, internal battles being waged against fears. It is those fears that are preventing many of the characters in the story from the joys and triumphs of even simple victories. All in all, it is a complex yet satisfying story to read. The author has written this book in a contemporary voice, populating the story with people who could be our family or friends. The issues they face could be ones any of us may have to experience. I was drawn to care about Raina's and Casper's relationship as much as I cared about Max and Grace's future. And during this journey, I was given the opportunity to ponder some important facets about love, life and our relationship with God.

In addition to its contemporary draw, I couldn't help loving the humor the author injects into Grace's friendship with Max, her sister Eden, and her three brothers. It's well balanced with some of the more serious moments and issues some of the characters have to face. As a reader, I just knew that Max and Grace's romance would survive the hurdles thrust before them, because their relationship just sparkled with humor and wit. I enjoyed this author's writing style so much that I'm looking forward to finding and reading the rest of the Christiansen Family series.

When I sat down and began reading the novel, I expected nothing short of a great story and I wasn't disappointed. At the end of the novel the author shares her experiences of how two different people react when suffering came into their lives and how it touched her heart. Loosely based on seeing two different responses to suffering she included each into this tale of the Christiansen family sage. Honestly it is a heart tugging tale because no one who has lived for any amount of time on earth has been unscathed by experiencing suffering or pain in some form.

The story includes the characters from the other two novels which are Take a Chance on Me followed by It Had to be You. While readers can read the book without having read previous installments I think more will be gained by readers who do read the other books to understand the developing tale. One characteristic I appreciated about the novel was the fact that no Christian family is without problems, trials, joys and more. The other thread which is evident is how wanting to know Him more means holding on less tightly to expecting others to fill whatever our hearts are longing.

Within the pages the audience will enjoy reading how God stretches Grace Christiansen out of her comfort zone along with a hockey player who keeps his heart protect from loving and really living. Readers will learn about one brother Owen who is rebelling and still reacting out of a deep loss of his dreams, mad at God and continues to come in and out of his family's lives without a thought to how it hurts them so. Then there is a young single woman who has nowhere to go, no family to embrace her when she makes a decision that changes her future in ways she can't even imagine.

Here is a story of redemption, learning to love and live life to its fullest no matter what may or may not happen in the future. It is a story of trusting in God and living sacrificially for the benefit of others who need to know how much He loves them. All of the characters have made or are making choices either to walk each day with faith in Him or by trying to handle their situation in their own strength. A great fictional story which drives home to the heart truths to ponder long after the readers close the cover!
