Irene Hannon has done it again with the first book of her Private Justice series! Just like her previous two series, Vanished has all the elements that make a winner -- gripping suspense, intriguing romance, exciting characters, and practical faith. She hooked me on page one and never let me go.

As the saying goes, "the plot thickens," page by page throughout the story. Secrets are revealed on an as-needed basis, at just the right pace to keep you guessing and checking your theories. As always, Irene's in-depth research into the various aspects of her plot and characters keeps things "real" and lends credibility to her story. The characters' difficult discussions about justice and morality added a very thought-provoking touch to the book.

And I have to admit it's sort of fun to see my own town of Potosi (a small, relatively unknown Missouri town) show up occasionally in her books -- even if for less than ideal reasons!

Dee Henderson and Terri Blackstock set the bar for me several years ago in the Christian suspense genre. Dee Henderson has been quoted as saying about Irene Hannon, "I found someone who writes romantic suspense better than I do." I definitely agree that Irene belongs there at the top with those established authors.

I would recommend finding a time when you can read uninterrupted for a few hours, if at all possible, and get started on Vanished. I can't imagine having to put down this book once you get started.

Available January 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. Book 2 in the series is due out in fall of 2013, followed by book 3 next year. I'll be waiting impatiently to learn more about the characters introduced in Vanished.

Thanks to Revell for providing this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

To find another new series by one of my favorite authors was an early Christmas present I didn't expect. Irene Hannon has outdone herself in Vanished, book one of her new series, Private Justice. Vanished is a tightly plotted, fast-moving mystery that leaves the reader wishing there were at least a couple more chapters to enjoy. In reality, we will be able to observe Moira and Cal at a distance in the next book in this series, which will be out next fall!

Moira is a gutsy reporter who runs into some trouble on a dark and rainy night. She sees a face, but before she can stop, she has hit the person and run off the road. A good Samaritan stops to see how she is and if she were injured - and then disappears. Who was he, and why can't she remember? Moria's instincts as a reporter drive her to hire a private investigator, Cal, to help her solve the mystery.

To say that this is a book I just couldn't put down sounds trite, but it is true. As with other books I have read by Irene Hannon, this is a well written, well researched book that I, for one, will reread just for the pleasure of an enjoyable story.

What if you were driving down the road on a dark, rainy night and someone walked out in front of you? What if someone comes to your aid and disappears? What if the person you hit vanishes? Would you walk away thinking you were imagining things? Or, would you take every step necessary to find out the truth?

For reporter Moira Harrison, there is no question that she must find the answers for her own piece of mind, but she and the private investigator she hired discover secrets someone would rather not come to light. Between the romance developing between Moira and Cal Burke, her private investigator and the danger that awaits, Irene Hannon once again succeeds in developing a story that will grab you and hold you until the very end.

As with any romance novel, it is somewhat predictable; however, Hannon's timing between Moira and Cal is perfect. As this is the first book in the Private Justice series, I am looking forward to the next book and the next and the next. Hannon has the ability to capture readers with the plot and captivate them with romance.

It was a dark and stormy night and reporter Moira Harrison was out way too late, her interview having taken longer than she planned. On an unfamiliar road, she is shocked to barely see a woman on the rain soaked road ahead of her. Trying to avoid the woman, Moira ends up against a tree. Dazed, she is surprised by a man in a hooded jacket, opens the door, comforts her, and promises to call 911.

She realizes she must have blacked out as she groggily realizes it is an hour later. There is no ambulance, no hooded man, and no body of the struck woman anywhere. She has vanished.

Moira pursues the mystery as she cannot forget the look of the terrified woman on the road. When the police discover nothing, she turns to a private investigating company. What they begin to discover is chilling.

Hannon has created another great novel of suspense. There was just enough of the mystery revealed from time to time to keep me reading. And as is the usual case with Hannon's novels, the suspense at the end kept me turning pages (well, digitally, so to speak).

The lead characters are Christians and that is well done. There is just enough romance, to keep that aspect of the novel interesting too.

The only thing I didn't like about the novel was that at the very end, Moira made some mistakes that I could see coming and could have avoided.

All in all, a very good first book in a new series.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

"Vanished" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the first book in a new series, but it's also a stand-alone novel. I found the story refreshing. Lately, it seems like most books that I read have a setup very similar to other books I've read before, but this was new to me: an injured woman vanishes and an investigative reporter and a private investigator appear to have nothing to go on.

I liked the main characters, especially how they cared about justice even when they, personally, didn't know the victim and wouldn't gain anything from pursuing the case, and even when it was a long chance that they'd be able to solve the case. The characters acted realistically, and we got to know them well.

The suspense was created by uncertainty about finding enough clues to uncover (and prove) whodunit and from physical danger. The romance came across as realistic to me and had some funny moments--how many novels have sorting through trash for a date! Loved it.

The main characters were all Christians, and we saw this more through their actions--like how they treated people--than through their talking about God. The bad guy was also a Christian, but he felt like he had "to help God out" in an extreme way. He was a very warped character, though there was a good reason for why he was that way.

There was no sex. There was a very minor amount of "he cursed" style of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable and intriguing novel.

I received this book as a review copy from the publisher.
