It's the same argument used by critics of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Why four gospels, and why are they so different . . . and yet so similar? Because the author's were writing to different people groups, and were presenting different aspects of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There have been rumblings that "Dee Henderson is slipping; her writing has changed! This isn't ANYTHING like her O'Malley series!"

Well, guess what . . . this isn't the next installment of the O'Malley series. And I'm here to let you know . . . Dee Henderson IS NOT SLIPPING! The romantic suspense is still there, stronger than ever but better; because of its subtlety. And the "learning curve" that Dee Henderson had to work through in order to write UNDETECTED is not something for the faint of heart.

From page one, the book had me hooked. I'm writing this review on the strength of the first 100 pages, because I want to be able to finish the book without worrying about a review deadline . . . it's just that good!!!

Commander Mark Bishop is in charge of the Gold Crew on board the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada. He is one of a handful of picked men, highly trained for a burden of command like few others jobs in the military: keeping the crew of the Nevada trained and alert during ninety-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch nuclear weapons upon presidential authority. It makes for a long day, and a stressful . . . and lonely . . . life. Which is why Mark wants someone to come home to.

Gina Gray, aka "Gina The Genius," would love to be married. An unexpected breakup, though, has her focusing her attention on what she does best. Gina has had more breakthroughs in ocean science research than anyone twice her age. She's on the cusp of yet another one . . . and if she's right, submarine warfare is about to enter a new and dangerous chapter.

5 stars for riveting suspense and romantic intrigue

    By: Dee Henderson

Another great book by Dee Henderson! Suspense, naval war threat, romance. This book has it all. I was hooked from page one.

Mark Bishop is in the Navy. He is a commander of a submarine. Being responsible for his ship and his men is Mark's life. His wife died, and he's ready to get married again. Will his friend Daniel get in his way? Can he convince Gina to trust him?

Gina Gray is an ocean science researcher because her brother Jeff is in the Navy. This is how she can keep him safe when he's in his submarine. She has mapped the seabed of the world's oceans. She's figured out how to use the sun's solar flare to see reflections in the ocean. Then an event pushes her to use her abilities to save her husband and her brother in their submarines, facing nuclear warheads. The Navy wants to keep her abilities secret from other countries, but will they need to release her work in order to diffuse the situation?

Gina has been hurt in her past. She is extremely smart, but with a speaking problem, sometimes she can't articulate what she needs to say. Most people can't handle her impediment. Can she learn to trust Mark? How will she cope when everyone is out to sea and trouble starts brewing with China and Japan?

Gina's faith shines throughout the book, no matter what she is faced with, she trusts God. Mark's faith took a hit when his wife died. Can Gina help him get his faith back on track? Pick up this book for another great read by Dee Henderson.

For many of us who read Dee's early works and series of The O'Malley Family and her other series, we became so familiar with the characters-they were almost like family to us. In recent years, Dee writing style has changed and matured giving us more substantial stories. I enjoyed this book and it gave me a glimpse into a life in the Navy that I am not familiar with. It was not a quick read, as some of her other books have been and it didn't make me wonder what would happen in the next book. Her story line was suspenseful and showed a new reality with science.

I would give this book a 5 star rating. You can find it available here or at your favorite bookstore.

An enticing blend of military action, romance and national security.

Henderson's characters once again, walk off the page and into your heart.

This book is the second book about the Bishop family. You do not have to have read the first book in order to understand this book. Each book stands by itself.

While this book is filled with complex science, it doesn't bog down the reader or leave you feeling confused. The glimpse into the submarine warfare and its complexities was enlightening as well as intriguing. You walk away with a new respect for the "Bubbleheads".

Henderson also gives us a fascinating glimpse of the unique trials in the life of a genius. Gina Grey is the genius. Her brother gave her the nickname, "Gina the genius". While I have come across geniuses in school, I have never thought what life is like for these people once they hit adulthood. Gina takes complicated thoughts and dreams up simple ideas. Her discoveries are both helpful and harmful to the military. How does a person deal with ideas that are on one hand helpful and on the other hand highly threatening? Do you hide your genius or let it play out?

I loved this book, it is an instant classic. The characters walk off the page straight to my heart. I feel like I could sit down for coffee with these characters and talk like old friends. I love that Henderson paints a realistic picture of military life. She doesn't sugarcoat it. Life isn't easy for those at home or those at sea. The ideas of how to handle the absences touch the heart. I also love the conversational faith that is woven into the story. The lessons I learn from the characters about their questions of faith help me in my own walk. I look forward to the next book with great anticipation.

There's no doubt about it... Dee Henderson is a professional, writing about professionals, for professionals. Don't pick up this book if you're looking for a high-powered suspense or a romantic piece of fluff with nothing behind it but a few too many passionate moments. Don't get me wrong, this book is a love story, just not your typical 'boy meets girl and they live happily ever after' type of novel.

This was the story of two people searching for the other half of themselves, and discovering love in a way that was real. I consider it a privilege to have stepped into the lives of Mark Bishop and Gina Gray. Our hero taught me the beauty of pursuing a woman, and in our heroine, I found a heart that desired love but was almost surprised when it found her. I think our society has a lot to learn from a romance like this. I know for me, it did a lot to reinforce the fact that time is often just what God is looking for to create something more beautiful then we could've imagined. We just have to trust him.

So yes, I highly recommend this book. Not only did I come back with a masters degree in Navy submarines and the science behind sonar, but this story gave me a deep sense of satisfaction. I've never been so content walking away from a book. It met my expectations, and if yours aren't too far fetched, then I know you'll be satisfied too.
