This is a serious film that depicts moments of tremendous suffering emotionally. Like Courageous it highlights the importance of fatherhood. It also highlights redemption as the male protagonist accepts Jesus in prison and the female protagonist finds grace in hearing of another man's innocence. For the size of the films budget, a lot was done to make the film beautiful to look at with some visually gorgeous shots of landscapes in the country. Yet the sometimes starkness if the city was captured. This film also has some fun moments showing kids who had challenges but also showing that when Christian adults show them care, much joy can come.
This film had me in tears not once or twice but 3 times. I can't recall the last time a film did that to me. I also can't recall the last time a film made me cry joy filled tears of thankfulness for being saved by the Lord.
Last comment is that I think this film has some adult themes and would be best viewed by people over the age of 14.
I love this movie. It is absolutely Excellent! The quality is great. The feeling of Faith & Love it portrays really felt genuine. And I so did not expect the ending to end the way it did, which just made it that much better. Wonderful! Wonderful movie!
Do you like watching movies with graphic violent scenes? How about a bloody knife fight in a prison? Do you like to watch scenes where the leading lady pulls out loaded handgun and in a prolonged dramatic scene nearly blows her brains out in a suicide attempt? How about a scene where you hear gunshots and then see a good man murdered, then you get to watch his last bloody moments lying in a street. How about an bitter elderly lady chain smoking cigarettes and drinking booze. It's revealed later she believes in God but has tremendous bitterness?
This is not an encouraging DVD. Unconditional has no clear Christian message. There is no mention of Jesus Christ or the Gospel whatsoever. There is one shot of a woman reading a Bible and a few people make references to God, but I'm not sure what god or God this may be. It could be some higher power!
On the positive side, you will get some understanding of the difficulties of inner city life. Adults are seen helping troubled inner city children. This do gooder theme is terribly weak in contrast to all the dark violence.
