Reading a good book is like meeting a new friend. People can't understand why I read the end first or reread the parts that are special to me. Irene's books are like that with many special pockets of interest in them.

In this book Irene Hannon turned up the level of suspense and terror beyond anything she has done before, and dropped us into the world of a true psychopath complete with a skin crawling creepiness. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading until the book was finished--there was no way I was going to sleep until this guy was stopped. This was an amazing story with both twists that I did not see coming and things that I foresaw happening but was completely powerless to stop (no matter how much I wanted to yell and warn the characters). The only thing I would have changed about the book would have been to develop Laura and Dev's relationship a little more before things turned serious. I understand though that she could not slow that down without losing the heart pounding pacing of the book. I am so glad I read this book. It is one that will stick with me for a long time and one of the very few books I have read that I will be likely to read again.

The plot is common. A teen runs away and gets into trouble. But Hannon adds enough action and interesting subplots that the book was a page turner.

Sixteen year old Darcy has just lost her remaining parent so she is forced to live with her older half-sister. Much to Darcy's dismay, her half-sister, Laura, aims to reign in the freedom she's had as her father was ailing. Convinced Laura doesn't like her and doesn't want her living with her, Darcy runs away. She doesn't get far, however, as a serious snow storm has shut down the buses. She and a wandering girl she meets end up in a homeless shelter. The girls are befriended by a man who volunteers there and invites them to his house. Within a few days, Darcy's friend has disappeared and Darcy is being held captive in the man's basement. Laura is beside herself and hires a PI firm to find Darcy.

So that is the plot. It is not that unusual but there is a twist as to why the man keeps Darcy trapped. His aim is not to harm her but to ... well, you have to read the book. And there is a little bit of romance brewing between Laura and the PI. They both try to focus on finding Darcy, keeping their growing feelings in check. The end of the book is very suspenseful and will keep you turning pages.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

This book is hilarious! Embarrassingly so. I could help but laugh, and not just a little inner chuckle. The first book in the Trouble In Texas series, Swept Away, was a sweet story and I enjoyed it but this book I couldn't put down.

We were introduced to both Dare Riker and Glynna Greer in the first book, but I loved how the author developed the character of Glynna. She really surprised me, but in a good way. She wasn't so delicate and a little stuffy like I had expected.

I always like it when there's a little mystery in the story and this one surrounds Dare and whoever is trying to kill him. His close friends step up to protect him and help solve the mystery, although I was pretty certain very early on who it was and it turned out I was right.

This is a good book to get lost in for a while, forget your worries and escape into an adventure. I think it would appeal to a wide range of readers and I definitely recommend it!

This was a great read. You can never go wrong with an Irene Hannon book. This was one of her better books. The characters were well developed. I liked how fisrt impressions when meeting new characters were not necessarily true. There were layers to each person. We knew who the bad guy was right away which is a little unusual for this author but a nice change. We got to read how this person became the twisted person they were. I think this is her best book in the last 4-5 written. This book is a bit darker than most of her books but I found that refreshing. I hope she continues this trend in her next book.
