Product Description

When successful New York editor Jen Gibbs discovers a decaying slush-pile manuscript on her desk, she has no idea that the story of Sarra, a young mixed-race woman trapped in Appalachia at the turn of the twentieth century, will both take her on a journey and change her forever. Happy with her life in the city, and at the top of her career with a new job at Vida House Publishing, Jen has left her Appalachian past and twisted family ties far behind. But the search for the rest of the manuscript, and Jen's suspicions about the identity of its unnamed author, will draw her into a mystery that leads back to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . and quite possibly through the doors she thought she had closed forever.

The Story Keeper touched my heart in so many ways. It brought back memories of the stories my grandmother told when she was growing up. Some of the words are ones I heard from the generation that came after the Civil War. Lisa Wingate shows depth of characters and storylines. Whether you are a fan of historical of just a truly good story of the present you will love this book. You have two stories in one.

As Jen Gibbs changes jobs she is informed that the "slush pile" is NOT to be TOUCHED by ANYONE! Her first week there she finds a file on her desk when she goes to work. She recognizes it immediately from the "slush pile" because of the dust and the manuscript is typed, not a computer generated book. Only problem is that the manuscript is not complete. She can't get the book out of her mind. She finally goes to her supervisor. Then she has to tell the "big boss" that she found the folder on her desk with the book. He sends her to the Blue Ridge Mountains to find the author so they can publish the book. Only they want the rest of the book. Sorry, can't give you more without revealing too much of the story of Sarra (from The Story Keeper) and from Jen.

This book is one of those that will touch your heart and you won't want to put it down so that you can find out the rest of the story. I recently read my first novel by Lisa Wingate and I'm hooked on her books now.

I received this book through www.bookfun.org and the publisher to read this book and to leave an honest review. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to read a book that will touch your heart and your emotions. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. I read the book in two days.

Seldom does a story get into my pores, down to my very soul, one that will stay with me for a very long time, but The Story Keeper does just that for me. Jen just out of high school has a mentor that helps support her through college and on to graduate school to make a better life for herself. She comes from a very poor backwoods family that treats women and children as second class citizens. She vows to get out and never look back. She gets a great job in New York. Moves on with her life and occasionally gets letters from home asking for money, which she sends when she can. She gets a new job as a book editor for a publishing company. A twenty year old manuscript lands mysteriously on her desk. She becomes fascinated with the story and soon finds herself back home in North Carolina trying to find out who the author is and where the rest of the story may be. Actually it's like getting two books in one. You have Jen's story and her search for the mystery surrounding the manuscript and you have chapters of the manuscript itself that is interspersed throughout the book.

I'm always interested in how a book gets its title and this is revealed after 80% of the book has been read. It contains mystery, relationships, family dynamics and descriptions so vivid that you almost feel like you are there. I have traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway and have seen how the well off and the poor can almost be within a short distance of each other. I loved the ending and it even leaves a little bit of the story hanging in a good way where you can use your imagination and fill in your own blanks. I highly recommend this book. I will be looking for more books by Lisa Wingate in the future.

I received this book from the publisher through Bookfun.org for my honest review, which I have given.

Get this book, and then make sure you have all day to read it. I could not put The Story Keeper down. I even considered not doing my hair for church so I could read more. Lisa Wingate draws you into two stories at the same time, which is incredible! I was a little intimidated when I read some of the other reviews. I either love a book or hate it, and this one I loved with out a doubt! Wingate takes you to another place and time. She opened my eyes to some things that I couldnt imagine happening, but know that they do.

Jen Gibbs finally lands her dream job at Vida House Publishing. She feels like she is on cloud 9 every time she goes to work. When an aged manuscript appears on her desk she doesnt know what to do, but her curiosity gets the best of her. Now that shes read it, she yearns for more. Where are the other chapters? Who is they mystery writer? Jen has a hunch, but what if shes wrong? Is it worth the possibly losing her job over?

Join Jen on this amazing life altering journey. She must face some of her past, and learn to trust in the One True God. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Fiction. I have never read a book quite like this, and would love to see more. Wingate did an amazing job, and I will be looking for more of her books in the future. I received a copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers and TBCN in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Such an intriguing story and so wonderfully told by Lisa Wingate. I was mesmerized by the setting, the story, and the characters. The characters in the contemporary setting are Jen Gibbs and Evan Hall. Jen has just landed her dream job working for Vida Publishing in New York City. Evan is a successful author. Both Jen and Evan are from Appalachian mountain communities in North Carolina. Jen is captivated by a manuscript that mysteriously shows up on her desk during her first week of work at Vida Publishing. Within the manuscript is the fascinating story of Rand and Sarra near the turn of the 20th century in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Rand is spending time away from Charleston studying in the Appalachians and Sarra is an intriguing young girl of mixed ethnicity. She is the victim of an abusive father but has a rich history of being loved and taught by her grandparents at a younger age. She keeps this heritage in her heart through unpleasant and trying times.

Both story lines are captivating and the entire book is such a beautiful pleasure to read. Im just amazed at the excellence of the storytelling and had difficulty putting the book down. Im certain this book will remain a lifetime favorite for me.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, through The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.

Editor Jen Gibbs has a new job at a New York publishing house when a mysterious manuscript shows up on her desk. She goes to North Carolina to find the author and the rest of the story.

I thought this was an interesting book. The main storyline of Jen looking for the author is woven in with the twentieth century story she is reading. The book was well written and had a satisfying conclusion.
