Bought The Shack, and after reading a few chapters, threw it in the trash. I couldn't even pass it on to a friend. This book is fiction, yes, but since the subject is God in the trinity, at least it should be Biblically accurate and theologically correct. It takes the Truth and wraps it in New-Age theology that is a distortion of the Bible. Even Satan knows to take the Truth and distort it ever so slightly so it is no longer truth. This book will make you 'FEEL' great. It builds God up into the image of what we want God to be. I'm sure the author had good intent. We all have to battle the 'junk food' theology out there. His story is filled with some nourishing food and whole lot of junk food.

Do not waste your money on this junk! If there was a way to give this book a negative rating, that's what I'd do. This book is so incredibly bad that it was difficult to finish reading. I am saddened by the fact that so many people have given this book good reviews. They can call it a "novel" and get away with all the heresy and blasphemy, but that doesn't change the fact that it is denigrating to Almighty God. It is heresy because it distorts the Truth of Scripture, and it is blasphemy because of the way it pictures the Holy Triune God and the unbiblical words it puts in the mouths of the ridiculous characters that supposedly represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The only thing challenging about this trash was holding my temper while attempting to read it through looking to see what so many supposed Christians were finding good to say about it. What has become of the Truth of God's Word if they can find something "good" in The Shack?

I give it one star only because it is a fairly good story, so was DaVinci Code, but it need so be read with great caution. I am amazed, disheartened and frightened by so many reviews I see here from seemingly sincere Christians that sing the praises of this book, much less that it's contents have so greatly impacted their life. The most alarming is that so many say how it has changed the way they view God and Jesus Christ??? If it has, then I am greatly concerned for you, for your view is now one that is NOT Biblical nor pleasing to God. Others have gone into details I will not, but it is full of absolute heresy in regard to it's view of God, Jesus and salvation. Read it for a good story -fine, read it for theological doctrine-BEWARE!!!! It only shows me that far too many Christians are very unenlightened of the Truth of God's Word and can be so deceived and gullible. That ALARMS me!

The Seductive & Subversive ShackBy Jan Markell ...people I respect highly, including Dr. Albert Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Seminary, calls it "undiluted heresy." On page 110 Jesus says that He is perhaps not the way, truth, and life, but the BEST way to relate to the Father & Holy Spirit. Papa God, the African-American female, says she has many followers of many religions in different lands. This is not Orthodox Christianity.Mack asks "Papa" God, the female, about God's wrath. The answer is that she doesn't punish people for sin; rather she wants to cure sin. No mention of repentance, the shed blood, & all the things the new "seeker" environment wants to leave out in the church parking lot.Former "New Ager" Warren Smith says, "...The book conveys postmodern spiritual ideas and teachings that challenge biblical Christianity - all in the name of 'God' and 'Jesus' & the 'Holy Spirit.' Smith goes on to say, "I was drawn into the 'New Age Movement' years ago by books & lectures containing parabolic stories that were not unlike The Shack. They felt spiritually uplifting as they tackled tough issues & talked about God's love & forgiveness. They seemed to provide me with what I spiritually needed as they gave me much-needed hope and promise. Building on the credibility they achieved through their inspirational & emotive writings, my 'New Age' authors & teachers would then go on to tell me that God was in everyone and everything. As writer & researcher Berit Kjos concludes, "By ignoring (or redefining) sin and guilt, they embrace an inclusive but counterfeit 'Christianity' that draws crowds but distorts the Bible."To learn more, visit Lighthouse Trails Research & the article The Shack: Father-goddess Rising. I am reminded about the many false things promoted today written in 2 Timothy 3:16: "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived."

Lean on a bamboo shaft, and it may help you for a few steps before breaking in your hand and leaving you even more injured... Unfortunately, that's the nature of the The Shack. It's uniqueness initially might bring intriguing relief before its wrong views of God and His loving ways with us will subtly lead us away from the true Christ. The most dangerous deceptions are ones that are the most believable. This is one of them. Far better to invest your time prayerfully in When God Weeps by Tada & Estes.
