I am shocked to see this book as a best seller on a CHRISTIAN BOOK website! I am equally shocked to see the high ratings given by Christians. I urge people to look deeper into what you are reading here, and the deceptions underlying the story.

I would feel better if I'd just tossed the money in the trash instead of spending it on this moronic book. "Pilgrim's Progress" for this generation? That book cover statement starts the absurdities that don't end until you get to the final pages that list ways to push this book on other gullible people. I'm embarrassed that I bought this.

    Resting In Him
In 2 Corinthians 11:4 the apostle Paul warned us about the deception of a counterfeit Christ, a false gospel and a pseudo-spirit. Jesus said in Matthew 24:4-5 that we are to "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many will come in my name saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many." Let is not be deceived by the false Christ and the false trinity that is presented in The Shack. The characters immerse Mack in a spiritual re-education of God. Another serious doctrinal error is seen in the fact that neither the Father nor the Holy Spirit made themselves finite or visible to man. The true Jesus said, "no man has seen God at any time" (John 1:18). But the book presents all three members of the Godhead in human form and in earth. The Shack is filled with many, many serious doctrinal errors and heresies. One of the most blatant comes from p. 182 where this character who plays Jesus says, "Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists, or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims..I have no desire to make them Christians but I do join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters." Other blatant heresies abound in the book such as "Calling up the dead" where Mack sees "colorful auras" that show spiritual maturity among the dead-but-alive. Time does not permit me in this post to discuss all the blatant errors. Suffice it to say that this is a very dangerous book that seeks to undermine and dismantle many of the foundations of the Christian faith and to replace them with a new doctrine that is patently false.

I just didn't get this book at all. There were some very disturbing concepts in this book about God. It is not a book I would recommend to my friends.

This is a book with two faces. The one face (which attracts many) is the story of unspeakable loss, and the forgiveness and healing that comes to the main character. The other face is that of a seductive and subversive deconstruction of God and the key doctrines of the Church. Young has created a god that is created in the image of humankind, and that exists to serve us. Some books are meat and bones. You can eat the meat, and toss out the bones. This one is more like a well prepared meal that has been intentionally poisoned. The poison is pervasive and deadly. There is something slithering beneath the surface of this emotionally gripping story. It is a snake, and if you really take the time to listen, you will hear it whispering Did God really say . . . ?
