Because of the sheer volume of error and because of the importance of the doctrines reinvented by the author, I would encourage Christians, and especially young Christians, to decline this invitation to meet with God in The Shack. It is not worth reading for the story and certainly not worth reading for the theology. -- Tim Challies
O1 Stars Out Of 5Loathe this bookNovember 12, 2015OQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I managed to pick up a free copy years ago from somewhere because I wanted to know what all the fuss about the book was and have my own informed opinion. I can emphatically state that the god portrayed in this book is NOT God. There is irreverent banter between God the Father and Jesus completely nullifying His holiness. Furthermore, the Trinity is portrayed as two women (the Father, the Holy Spirit) and one man (Jesus). That alone is blasphemous as God is identified throughout Scripture as He. The definition of faith is some philosophical nonsense and not the one given in Scripture. There's so much more wrong with it. Even books written in the fiction genre when being sold as Christian themed literature should have their grounding in Scripture. Make no mistake this book isn't grounded in Scripture, and it has the potential to confuse and lead people from the Truth. It's not more than one of the wolves in sheep's clothes that we are warned about. Everything deemed Christian must hold up to Scripture all of which is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work. This book deserves zero stars, but it wasn't an option. I loathe The Shack.

Definitely not a book based on true Christianity and not something that should be suggested to unbelievers - it will only confuse them.

However, this IS a book of FICTION! The slippery slope is reading something like this and expecting it to really guide you to biblical truth. This book holds many fallacies that may cloud your judgement when looking into God's perfect Word.
I should think those of true, strong, Christian faith would not be so interested in reading this. I also think it is dangerous for an immature Christian to be reading such a thing. May you enjoy reading and hold it to the light of God's truth to see if what you are reading is pleasing in His sight.
Be sure of this, that there is ONLY ONE WAY to the Father and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. May you truly accept Him into your life as Lord and Savior, so that you may be with Him and His Father in Heaven for eternity.

Very pleased to say the book had, and still has, a huge and positive impact on my life. Provided me a much needed path for a very personal journey into forgiveness of self, and of others. Since that first reading I have enjoyed several subsequent reading to revisit and experience that path of forgiveness. I highly recommend the book and have distributed many many copies to family and friends.
