"The Power of Knowing God" is a no homework, 6-week-long Bible study. It's designed for small groups to do together once a week in a 40 minute period. The Bible study let Scripture speak for itself and was careful to keep the studied verses in context. It examined what God said about Himself in the Bible in both the Old and New Testament.

The study had people read several verses (which were included in the book along with information about the context of the verses), mark/highlight certain words, then answer several questions about what was just read. Insight boxes were included with word study information that helped make a verse or point more understandable.

The questions were helpful in focusing attention on all the points that needed to be looked at. In case you missed a point, the "wrap up" section at the end of each week's lesson summarized what was learned that week.

I enjoyed this study and thought it was well-written and made good points. I'd recommend this Bible study to all Christians. It's a good reminder if you already know it, but it'll really strengthen your walk with God if you didn't know it.

I received this book as a review copy from the publisher.

THE POWER OF KNOWING GOD by Kay Arthur..... If you enjoy a good Bible study this is an ideal book for you. A Bible study that will enlighten you to knowing God and the power of knowing Him. The book is set-up into 6 week Bible study sessions, but you can do them at your own pace and go as deep in the study as you wish and as long as you want. This Bible study can be studied by a couple of people or small groups in a 40 minute time period or however you want, you are not restricted to set study method. There is no homework to do, as in some studies. You get the scriptures that will be studied, but don't forget your Bibles, and also sections of discussion questions and suggestions to observe from the scriptures.

I enjoyed this book very much and feel that you will get to know the power of God. Enjoy and Praise God for studies like this.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review thru Blogging for Books.

I know some people don't understand why Precepts is such a fantastic Bible Study - Key words, lists, word studies in Greek and Hebrew - markings of every color and style - are all things that are usually foreign to other studies. Other studies you listen to someone else's thoughts and beliefs. This method of study helps us (with the help of the Holy Spirit and the tools that we are given) to discern for ourselves what truth is, instead of just hearing or reading someone else's thoughts. The New Inductive Study Bible and the International Inductive Study Bible (by Kay Arthur & Precepts Ministry) are the best Study Bibles I've ever had. They actually allow you to do the study yourself in the Bible, instead of reading someone else's interpretation of the scripture. People are understanding for themselves what the Word of God is saying, and remembering it, and telling others! It is SO exciting to see people who previously could not understand for themselves what the Word of God says, hunger for the study, and teach others the study method.

I actually attended a Precept Upon Precept class in 1988 & couldn't understand how everyone got & shared so much in our discussion. I would ask (almost weekly!), "How did you guys get SO MUCH?" and every week the other students would say, "we did our homework!" I finally went to a leadership class, primarily because I wanted to know WHY we were marking the words and how they got so much from each lesson, but also because we moved to an area where there wasn't a Precept class. I have had the privilege of hearing Kay speak at a number of training classes, and have never heard anyone speak with such authority, using the Word of God almost continuously. It was remarkable! I have been leading Precept classes now since 1990.

I have done a number of OTHER bible studies by acclaimed speakers and teachers; but to me, nothing compares to Precept Upon Precept, and the teaching of Kay. If you don't understand why we "mark" our Bibles, and what difference it makes, you might want to give it another chance. I muddled around with it for four years before finally taking that training class. Of course Precepts is not for everybody, but the method of study it teaches us is liberating and invigorating! It is SO MUCH FUN to learn the Word of God for ourselves! The 40 minute - no homework studies are perfect for Sunday School, Youth Groups or Home Groups. They are the perfect lead in to the more in depth Precept Upon Precept classes.

The Power of Knowing God is part of a series in short - 6-week, no-homework bible studies. Kay Arthur is well-known for her particular method of in-depth bible study. PRECEPT ministries and their inductive Bible studies walk you through the bible slowly and deliberately, not letting you miss a single word or inference.

I worked through another one of these studies, Fatal Distractions: Conquering Destructive Temptations, and LOVED it. Although the book is set up the same way - with all the text, instructions, scripture, in one handy place -it took me longer to work through this one. (meaning, since I was doing it alone and not as part of a small group - with accountability, I put it off ...)

The marking words, underlining, squiggling and circling seemed a little tedious this time around, but overall it is an excellent study. It serves as a good reminder if you already know the information, reinforcing the truth....

Although I am giving this one a 4 - I will be trying another one of these studies - the format makes it perfect for popping in your purse for those inevitable waiting time.

This book contains six lessons covering the following attributes of God:

God is self-existent, self-sufficient and creator

    God is sovereign

God is all omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent

God is righteousness, justice and truth

    God is love

    God is holy

This book was provided to me at no cost for the purpose of review by Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing.

Book itself is ok, I just don't get the hype about precepts when it comes to Bible Study. Jesus said keep it simple like a child. I have learned so much in Bible Studies and Church itself where the pastor or leader has been schooled knows the Bible prays to GOD the Spirit to Speak thru them and does not let markings and drawings all over a page confuse everyone for 2 days over one passage! The Book itself is a nice guideline to add to your other Bible Studies. The Questions are good too. But all the markings are a waste of time in my opinion.
