The Lightkeepers Daughter A Mercy Falls Novel

I really enjoyed this book. Apparently, the author is known more for mystery stories than historical fiction. Here she blends both beautifully. Addie and Johns romance is so pure and innocent from the very beginning. It progresses sweetly, even though it happens quickly. The faith element is equally sweet and pure through the eyes of Addie. The book has many twists and turns that are quite unexpected and keep you guessing (usually I can figure out what is coming, but not this time. It was great!).

Edward is Johns son and has epilepsy in a time before much was known about it. It is the early 1900s during the suffragist movement, and set in a small town along the California coast line. Gideon, Addies german shepherd, is able to help Edward with his fits, and is a first rate guard dog who adds to the story.

I would definitely recommend this book.

This was #2 in the series. Since I enjoyed book #1 so much, I immediately read #2. You can read this book alone, with no problem. I like how there is a gentleness to the men in both of these books. Will Jesperson still has all the manly strength that you would want, but he is a man of faith and conviction whose gentle manner carries throughout the whole story in a way I am not used to. I found that very refreshing. He has recently moved to town as the new lighthouse keeper, and is immediately thrust into crime and danger as he witnessed pirates overtake a ship just off the shore, and subsequently went out to try and save the victims.

Katie Russell is more independent than most women in the small town of Mercy Falls. She has a job working as a switchboard operator that feeds her curiosity and allows her to be helpful to people in crisis (fire reported, doctor needed, possible mayhem, etc.). She also has a secret so big, it consumes her beyond being able to fully depend on God.

When their two paths end up crossing, it takes them on a crazy adventure to try and solve the mystery of an abandoned baby (Jennie), whom they both grow to care for, along with finding out more about the pirates, and how her own father is effected by both.

This book really meets many wants for me as a reader. One small thing at the end, was I did not feel that Wills brother, Phillip, had his story resolved. We were told his plan, but the character who holds that plan in his hand is no longer available to employ him at the end of the book. So what happened to Phillip? I dont care for loose ends in a book, especially when editors should catch that sort of thing. But, its not a big enough deal to take away from the book.

I enjoyed that Lady Carrington is a carry-over from book #1, and despite her tragic past, she still has a small sense of adventure, and certainly a sweetness about her.

The animals in the story also added some whimsy to the book. A talking myna bird name Paco and a kitten named Nubbins.

This book is again set in the early 1900s during the suffragist movement, and set in a small town along the Northern California coast line. It is a time when cloth diapers were used. Blegh! So glad we dont have to deal with that any more ;)

I would definitely recommend this book.

This was #3 in the series. Again, very enjoyable. The author seemed to gain some momentum with this book, and added more dangerous situations to the main character, Olivia Stewart. She presented more opportunity for Olivia to be rescued, and I really liked that. All three books seem to be similar in that the parents dont value the young women the way they should, or connect with God. Each mother is more worried about marrying off the daughter to a wealthy man of good standing, than considering what her daughter wants. Each daughter must figure out a true relationship with Christ. Each young man already has one, and Harrison Bennett is no different. That has been truly a nice change of pace compared to other authors. Harrison dreams of changing the world with his aeroplanes instead of following his fathers lead with ruthless business tactics always trying to gain more money and power.

Olivia travels from her home of New York, to follow her sisters route to Mercy Falls, CA and find out what caused her death. Though deemed an accident, Olivia suspects fowl play. Her biggest suspect is Harrison Bennett, whom her sister was engaged to.

Philip returns late in this story to help out on an investigation, but again, my questions from book 2 were not answered, so we just assume he landed on his feet, and he only plays a minor role in the story.

Several of the main characters from books 1 and 2 join in this final book, and develop friendships with these new characters, which was most pleasant.

There were a few typos, and repeat use of storyline within this book; scenes that happened more than once, as well as big wordsalmost like the author really wanted to use a thesaurus but overall, not a big deal. I would definitely recommend this book/series.
