Julie Klassen has written another page turner! The Maid of Fairbourne Hall is an excellent story from start to finish. This historical book takes readers inside the very interesting "belowstairs" world of a 19th-century English manor. The reader gets a front row seat to what was expected of and how servants were treated in and around 1815. Margaret Macy is a well to do young woman who goes through a spiritual transformation during the course of the story. Without giving the plot away totally, Margaret has to flee London and ends up working as a housemaid. She has never really looked at servants before, never gave them much thought as to their feelings. Margaret learns a lot while working as a housemaid, from how to actually clean to looking past peoples appearances to the real person underneath. I love all things English and Julie Klassen didn't disappoint. The history and detail were beautifully done and well researched. The well plotted love story was clean, breathtaking and beautiful. Without a doubt I would recommend this book.

Julie Klassen has put together a great story. I found it difficult to put this book down as it was not a typical story. Normally the main characters are upper class but this book revolves around the servants which is much more to my liking. A most interesting story from beginning to end.

Fascinating details of life amongst the servants. I just wish she had included sketches of where the rooms were that all these servants took care of. It was amazing and I wonder how many, if any, mansions such as this still have such a staff? Was this also in France and other European countries? I have not finished reading but I did read the last couple pages and am always thankful when the details of the romance are muted. A very good read.

As usual Julie Klassen has written a fascinating story with excellent character development and constantly changing story line. You really never know what is going to happen next. The underlying research gives good insight as to what being in service might have been like during the time period.
