"The Letters", by Suzanne Fisher Woods, captures the hearts of her readers with imagination. Characters so real you feel them sitting next to you elaborating their story. But, the thread that ties it all together is "GRACE". Aside from the impishness of the children, the heartache of the Schrock family, the sweet confusion of the "sisters" down to the secrets of Dr. Charles Stoltz, Grace is ever present.

The love of Jesus is so evident in the heart of Rose as she ministers to Vera her mother-in-law and those around her.You can see the beginning of hurting hearts melting as the "Inn of Eagle Hill" starts taking form.

The characters are vivid and as you read you can hardly wait to see what comes of Dr. Stoltz and his family and what Fern Lapp has to contribute.

Yes, "GRACE" is the thread but so is humor, peace and a bit of mystery. So get ready to take an eagles wing and soar over Stoney Ridge and peek into the lives of its folks.

The first in a new series (The Inn at Eagle Hill), Suzanne Woods Fisher fans will be thrilled to know that we're back in Stoney Ridge with a fresh cast of characters...along with some cameo appearances of characters from her Stoney Ridge Seasons series. A thrill shot right through me every time I recognized someone from previous books. Yes, I'm that invested in my fictional friendships. :-)

Once again, a younger secondary character has stolen my heart. This time it is Rose's thirteen year-old daughter, Mim. She is wisdom beyond her years mixed with a sweet naivety to create an intriguing and often amusing character. I just love Fisher's ability to introduce her readers to real people who just happen to live in books. And for die-hard fans, you might be interested to know that Jimmy Fisher is back and he might just have met his match!

But let's not forget that this is Rose and Galen's story. A wee bit of a May/September romance with a thread of mystery thrown in for good measure. The Letters is filled with life lessons -- not the least of which is that the hope of the Lord can touch a life and turn darkness into light. I was intensely moved by Rose's journey from tragedy to triumph and the ripple effect her actions (and heart) have on those around her.

An exceptional read for Amish lovers everywhere. And if you're not an Amish fan be forewarned -- you might just become one after reading The Letters.

Welcome to a place of unconditional love and unexpected blessings.

Welcome to The Inn at Eagle Hill in Stoney Ridge Pennsylvania. Rose Schrock has to find a way to earn her own income now that her husband Dean, has passed away from an apparent drowning after she learned that he lost all the investments of both English and Amish customers with Schrock Investments. It seems like the phone calls and letters from investors who have lost everything will never end, asking when she will return the money they have invested. They have already lost their home and have moved back in with Dean's mother, Vera who has suffered from a series of strokes needing someone to be able to care for her. It wouldn't be so difficult if Vera was easy to please and offered a kind word every now and then. But Vera was a hard bitter pill for Rose to swallow every day.

Opportunity suddenly presents itself when Rose overhears a conversation in the local market from an English couple looking for a hotel to stay the night in while waiting for a sudden storm to pass. Rose offers them a stay in their home and suddenly realizes that the basement space beneath their home might offer a way to make a living while still enabling Rose to be at home. If only she could find a way to convince Vera that this is just what they need in order to try and make a come back from the financial nightmare Dean has left her to deal with.

Delia Stoltz is about to have the worst day ever. When she receives news from her doctor that she has cancer, she returns home to find her husband is packing his belongings in his car and tells her that he isn't in love with her any longer and is leaving, for good. Not knowing what else to do, Delia deals with it the way I believe most women would. After a good lengthy cry, she picks herself up, heads to the doctor for a lumpectomy and decides to take a long drive. What she doesn't plan on is running into the Inn at Eagle Hill. Yet something about this place just tells Delia she needs to stay and heal. A place where she can find solitude away from the things in her life that are causing her stress so she can clear her head and make some hard decisions about her future. It this a divine intervention?

In the latest novel from Suzanne Woods Fisher, The Letters is the first novel in the Inn at Eagle Inn series. I received this wonderful, heartwarming story compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Revell Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review. I absolutely LOVED this delightful novel. It shows how wonderful and healing forgiveness can be when applied in the correct Godly context. Rose will need to come to terms with the financial crisis that is keeping her bound to her husband's past decisions and Delia will need to decide how she will move forward in working things out with her husband Charles. I read this one in a single sitting and can't wait to read the next novel in this wonderful series. I am completely addicted to this one and can't wait to see where Suzanne will pick up next. There are some great discussion questions included in this one as well as a recipe for Blueberry cornbread I can't wait to make and have with some hot tea. I rate this one hands down a 5 out of 5 stars.

Once I was able to get into this book it was a pleasure. There are several points of view that the narration switches between, but once I was able to keep it all straight I enjoyed the multiple perspectives. Each character is so different and their personalities, thoughts, and struggles were portrayed with such individual voices and had a depth of feeling. The plot moves along somewhat leisurely, which is why I think switching between perspectives helps rather than hinders the storytelling. It was interesting how each life was intertwined and the ending was wonderful and sweet.

I enjoyed another book last month titled, The Letters by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This book is about an Amish widow seeking a way to provide for her family after her husband passes away.

Within the first few pages I could relate to Rose's life. Her rambunctious-work-avoiding boys, her weariness with her responsibilities (page 10) and struggles and worries over how to provide for her family.

I admired Rose's ability to give her anger, lack of forgiveness and faith over to God. Amidst difficulty she always seemed to choose the high road. I had to ask myself if I do the same when facing difficult circumstances.

It wasn't until the end of the book I discovered this book is a part of a new series, The Inn at Eagle Hill. The thought of existence of such a place in real life was refreshing and how invigorating it would be to visit.

I fear in places the storyline was predictable, which always lets me down. Nevertheless, it was nice to put my feet up and enjoy a good book. I admit I wondered at the miracles happening. We are a the point in our lives where we need a miracle vocationally and I can't help but wonder if it will happen in the time it needs to.

Here are a couple quotes from the book I enjoyed:

Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark. (page 9)

Rose Schrock had been raised not to complain, so she didn't, but the truth of the matter was, the last seven months had been the hardest stretch of her life: so many things had gone wrong that it was hard to know which trouble to pay attention to at any given time. (page 10)

I need more faith to guide us through dark times and while I try not to complain, I don't think I am the example Rose was and have tons of room for improvement.

As always, I love Suzanne Woods Fisher's books, she combines all the emotions for a great read. So of course I give The Letters two thumbs up.
