I have used this book and accompanying workbook for 2 years in a small group setting in our church. The small group consists of individuals from our Celebrate Recovery, our church's Biblical counseling ministry, and others that want a deeper and more meaningful approach to transforming their lifes. Surprisingly, it is not just addicts or drunkards that attend. Family members also desire a Biblical perspective to the Heart of Addiction. The small group runs for 26 weeks. The Heart of Addiction gives real world instruction based on biblical principles. After all the first recorded drunken binge was Noah. Studying the book, the addict or drunkard learns that their problem is really their sin nature, the same sin nature that has raged in all of mankind since Genesis 3. The world calls it a disease or hereditary and says that there is no hope. The Bible calls it a sin and that there is redeemtion for sin through Christ Jesus, He is their Hope.

Though written primarily for alcohol/drug addiction, this book is so helpful for ANY type of addiction: gambling, sex, shopping, lust, porn, etc. It is solid and biblical!! Once I learned that addiction at its core is idolatry, and that I have a worship problem, true healing and Godly change began to take place. HIGHLY recommend this book and the workbook.

This resource is tremendous. It is not a program or an idea, but it is practical and powerful as it uses God's word and its power to help those struggling with substance abuse,

    Too many "quotes"

I like the book so far, i think the content is good. What i don't like is the author uses quotation marks excessively. Like it's so much it's distracting. I am used to quotation marks being used when quoting something and then a reference to what or who you're quoting, but he's using them randomly and on every page.
