HeidiPACentral PAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent book!March 2, 2013HeidiPACentral PAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As has been my experience with each and every book by Max Lucado, I loved this book. I read it as part of my daily devotional — reading one chapter per day. As I pick the book up and glance through it now, I see a lot of yellow highlights. I kept a highlighter with me as I was reading to highlight thoughts that stood out to me as applicable — things I wanted to remember to read through again later.
This book is based on The Lord's Prayer — a portion of Scripture that most everyone has committed to memory at some point in their lives. Each portion of the prayer is assigned a certain "room" in the House of God. So, as you read, you are essentially taking a tour of this amazing house, and finding out how YOU fit into it.
Max's writing style is simplistic enough for anyone to understand, while being extremely profound at the same time! The Great House of God will take up residence on my bookshelf, beside all my other books by Max Lucado. It will be shared and re-read over the years, too! -
grits5 Stars Out Of 5I read this book in 1998 while I was in the hospital for back surgery. The title is so spot on.October 4, 2020gritsQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am now re-reading this book and I have turned it into a personal bible study. I look forward to reading it every morning and digest a new way of consuming the information. When I am finished, I will send my notes to my out of state friends. I am a church librarian and put this book in our library 16 years ago.

alisaUtahAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful visionary bookMarch 20, 2013alisaUtahAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I really, really enjoyed this book. Comparing our relationship with God to a house that He has was a very concrete visual for me. I have always enjoyed Max Lucado books because in many ways he reminds me of C.S. Lewis. I appreciated many of his examples of how our Father loves us no matter what in His living room. The kitchen is a place where we can ask God to provide for us "just for today". One of my favorite examples is how his daughter gave a pretzel to someone that had done something annoying to her dad, the author.
Overall, this book is one I would read over again. The concepts are clear and concise. I don't agree with every single analogy that Lucado uses; that being said, I do think he makes marvelous comparisons in what we use every day (our house) and how we can use those ideas to improve our relationship with God. There was a "pondering" guide in the back that I also found helpful to make me think about my own relationship and how it can improve. My favorite chapter was the one about the furnace and how God is there with us in the fires if we allow him to be.
In summary, beautiful book. -
