I realize this is supposed to be an American Classic, and thus the reason for choosing to purchase it. However, I was disappointed with the bad language throughout. Also, I was very disappointed with the ending. I would not recommend the book.

My biggest gripe with this book is that it is on the recommended reading list for 9-12 grade students; when in my opinion, it's simply not good for them (in fact, I would only give the book itself maybe two stars for writing quality, young readers aside) Crude jokes, references to beastiality, and just rampant vulgar and foul language litter the pages. And with a preacher who takes advantage of girls and his friend who quote "is just thankful for each one he can get", again referring to girls; it just doesn't teach the values I want to see taught to teens who are in their especially formative years. Again, I read the book myself and it's not the worst thing ever; I just want parents with teens to be aware that just because it is on the approved reading list for young teens, doesn't mean it's right for them.
