I purchased this VHS over 20 years ago. While updating my DVD collection, this movie was a MUST! The cast is great. Martin Sheen and Alan Arkin are wonderful. It is fictional, yes. But very moving.

This is an enduring tale that touches the heart and soul of all who see it. I read the book years ago was deeply touched, the movie is just as touching. Martin Sheen and Alan Arkin perform beautifully. Martin is the eternal optimist and Alan the pessimist. But in the end the Messiah touches all the hearts. This is one you will watch over and over again.

My family and I enjoyed it very much. Inspiring, with just enough levity to show the true feelings of a frustrated servant on a quest he had not chosen.

When I watched this film the first time I was taken by the way it respectfully related to facts but also wove a compelling side story. In this case thought provoking elements that makes a person think about the people of those times and how many were touched by the events that we simply do not know about. When I found this production I was a bit skeptical but it very quickly won me over. My concern had originally been that a story written as a side story about those times could have been less than desirable but I have only praise for the results and have recommended it to others. The pace of the production captures some of the peril of those times and events and relates some details of them. I also covers the ideals of compassion, devotion and care. Being like Jesus wishes for us to be is the feeling of the production and of people growing in that capacity.

It also manages to have a few comic elements without detracting from the film. It has a few very compelling ones. I realized after I viewed this film that it was created by Paulist Productions. By Ellwood Kieser Emmy Award-winning Roman Catholic priest of the Paulists. For me I found this film a special moment in these times and also timeless in relevance. I look very hard for good spiritually based films and this one found a permanent place on my shelves and to be viewed many times to come. Expect that this film is not at the pace of the films of these times and that its many merits are more subtitle. It is a film to be viewed and talked about. lightly comic, definitely idealistic, spiritual and full of elements that help a person contemplate existence and purpose.

Great story but the filming was more like a B movie
