The Essentials of Effective Prayer by Kay Arthur and David & BJ Lawson is a six week Bible study meant for small groups to enrich and enliven your prayer life. They are part of the 40 Minute Bible Study/No Homework series. The authors use several examples of prayer throughout the Bible to show readers how to worship, confess, and intercede through their own prayers. I loved how the Bible verses were in the margins of the pages so I didn't have to juggle my Bible and the book at the same time. The questions encourage readers to dig deep into the purpose and message in each prayer. The Lord's Prayer from Matthew gets special focus, as does intercessory prayer. I learned a great deal about how to pray for others, as well as spending more time worshiping God for who he is within my prayers. This is a terrific tool for small groups, as well as for individual use (which is how I did the study).

I am so pleased with this study. As a Pastor I have taught many different lessons on prayer. The Essentials of Effective Prayer is different from any other study I have taught.

I am currently leading a group that is comprised of various backgrounds from Catholic to Pentecostal. Most of them have never been taught that they could have a personal relationship with Jesus! They prayed prayers in "rote" and never knew they could talk to God as they talked to a friend.

This study has brought out many thought provoking questions and answers! I would certainly recommend it to other Pastors, as well as, lay teachers!

This study guide is about prayer, how to pray and what to pray for and is an excellent resource for this class. It really makes you think and encourages free discussion among the participants.

We are studying week 3 next week and we all look forward to learning more about praying and how powerful prayer really is.

Our Bible Study used this book with great success. It fit our hour time frame and still allowed us to feel that the subject was fully covered. We have seen an increase in the depth of our prayer life. It is such a calming time. Thanks!

This book is proving a helpful way of teaching my small group how to pray. Some who were reluctant to pray aloud are now participating as we get toward the end of the book.
