Never a curse word or bad language. It is refreshing to read an author who can write an entire novel and it missing the filthy language, great for any young person to read. His best novel to me was "JIMMY" and I highly recommend that if you enjoy great reading to read all of his books, They are all part of our over 4,000 book library. He is excellent. CTH

I love to read and want the books I read to be well written and be written from a Christian view point, which this one was. "Abortion", which undermines our society is an issue even Christians want to side step at times. I love the compassion for those who face these issues.

ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Strong Christian ReadDecember 22, 2013ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was a book that I am so glad I read. Abortion is something very near to my heart. I have been an unashamed pro-life supporter for most of my life, and this book fit well into my belief system. It is a powerful book with a timeless message.
This book couldn't have picked a better starting year--my birth year. That caught my attention from the beginning. And Sandy was a fantastic character that I so enjoyed watching mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I was so glad she made the choice she did even though there was counseling on either side. I could never imagine being placed in her position. I always knew what the right decision should be for an unplanned teen pregnancy, but this put the decision into a real life situation.
When the story jumped ahead to 2008, I was quite pleased with the direction the story went. To see that Sandy continued to trust God and went on with her life was really neat. But the story was expertly written as it continued to take twists and turns. My emotions were played with on more than one occasion, but it was a fantastic ride. The ending nearly took me down one road, and I was prepared to accept it. And then the story took a 180 degree turn that truly astounded me!
There was a supernatural element of the story about which I was not quite sure, but in the end, it made perfect sense. While the gospel message was never spelled out, there is no doubt God was a major player in this story. The author is a master storyteller who writes with passion and intensity.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about social issues with a Christian worldview.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine. -
Favorite Christian BooksCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Vintage Whitlow!August 7, 2012Favorite Christian BooksCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've been a fan of Robert Whitlow since his first book The List. The Choice is an excellent story with a great message. Our choices make a difference. The story opens shortly after the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States. Young Sandy Lincoln has a choice to make one that would affect not only her life but the lives of the babies she's carrying.
This story draws you in very quickly with strong characters that are easy to recognize in real life. Sandy, the perfect daughter, good grades, cheerleader, and football player boyfriend. Sandy's mom, is the "perfect" housewife and mother where nothing is out of place. Sandy's father is the man of the house and successful businessman. Sandy's pregnancy threatens to implode this family. You then have Brad, the boyfriend, and his family the view the pregnancy as something that is easy to fix, just "get rid of it."
Robert Whitlow has the ability to stir your emotions through his writing. You will feel many of the same feelings the characters of the book do. This is a serious story line so not many laughs in the story but there are definitely times you will tear up (or if you're like me just cry out loud.)
I would recommend this story to any current Whitlow fans. If you've not read Whitlow before and you enjoy stories that look deal with real life situations in an informative, realistic manner with authentic emotion you'll enjoy this story.
I would like to thank ThomasNelson for the opportunity to read and review this book, I was under no obligation other than to give my honest opinion. -
KaraAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5August 6, 2012KaraAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Choice, by Robert Whitlow, is an excellent novel. It is a suspenseful story that presents many different sides of the unplanned pregnancy issue, from the mother and her family to the adoptive parents and the community reactions. It also addresses such issues as teacher-student interaction and obedience to God.
Sandy Lincoln, the head cheerleader at her high school in 1974, finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand with the star football player. Both the boy and Sandy's father want her to get an abortion, which had just become legal, but she makes the choice to have the baby and give it up for adoption. After a strange older woman in a gas station warns her that she will have twins who will be in danger if they ever meet, she insists that the babies be separated at birth and chooses families on opposite coasts. Over thirty years later, while attempting to help a student in her class at school, she meets one of her sons.
This book held my attention throughout the entire story. I was very reluctant to put it down. The characters were very realistic, and Sandy came across as an intelligent girl who made a mistake and dealt with it responsibly. The story was inspiring, and I would definitely recommend it.
