I've had my share of disappointments in some of the books I've been reading lately and it was with a curious and wary eye that I picked this one. I really wasn't sure what to expect. Halfway through the beginning though, my curiosity intensified. Halfway through the book, I was already freaking out - in a good way.

What an utterly spectacular book! Every word contributed in keeping me in its grip. Every page I turned left me breathless for more. Nothing enthrals a reader more than finding one of those rare reads that deeply resonates and satisfies in every way, and the very best part of The Breath of Dawn is the romance. It's been a while since I read a work as thick as Kristen's but I happily dived in it as I found that the author used every word to stretch, explore and unravel a tale that just jumped off the page. It's believable and I like that in a story. It's nothing but 437 pages of pure reading goodness.

Morgan and Quinn's relationship is probably as profound as romance gets within a fictional context, and even that is an understatement. I'm not even sure what words would come close to describing it. 'Exquisite' seems to fall a bit short. 'Phenomenal' will probably do. These characters are impeccably well-drawn and their relationship evolves in such a tender, beautiful way that feels almost tangible. It isn't fairy-like, mind you, rather it is a relationship that slowly rises from the ashes of grief as softly as the colors of dawn. Morgan Spencer is in raw need of consolation after the death of his wife, and after an impulsive decision of his and Quinn to engage themselves in a relationship to protect Quinn's life, they both go through a period of questioning their devotion to each other, not knowing where this relationship will lead. It appears both parties have wounds that are still tender and unattended. Heitzmann's take on this type of problem is fascinating, even as she boldly and beautifully shows the sheer delight and wonder of marriage. Readers will soak in the romantic scenes. Nothing crossed the line in my opinion, but the love story in this is edgier than what you'd find in an average Christian romance, which will thrilled those of us who like a good dose of passion in our romances. Did I also mention that the characters are also good friends? Just you wait and see. The bantering, the fun, the very surprising twists, the tender scenes between parent and child, the cuteness of Livie - which shall I mention, you will be barely able to survive! - all of it. It has been months since I've enjoyed discovering a story as much.

Toward the end of the story, suspense heightens as antagonists try to control the outcome of it all. One of them - not even worthy to be named - is truly possessed, despicable, cruel, abominable. An evil spirit incarnated. Yet, in the end, nothing stops the power of Love from redeeming it all― this, is The Breath of Dawn.

    More than highly recommended.

Before you pick up Kristen Heitzmann's latest novel, The Breath of Dawn, remove everything else from your agenda. As is the case with all of her work, you will not want to put it down for petty things like eating and sleeping. Also consistent with her other novels is the abundance of clever dialogue between her characters as well as the accompanying unspoken monologue they have with themselves. Even in a 400 plus page book, there are no wasted words, no lulls. Every syllable is essential to conveying the stories of her captivating characters.

At the opening of The Breath of Dawn (the follow-up to A Rush of Wings and The Still of Night) tragedy once again finds Morgan Spencer. Morgan is known as a "fixer" but finds great difficulty fixing his own life. After finally reconciling with his true love Jill, death claims her. Morgan, along with his infant daughter, leave their California home to try and find healing at his brother's ranch in Colorado. Nearly two years after Jill's death, he meets Quinn Reilly, who is trying to outrun demons of her own. In Quinn, Morgan finally finds someone who can match wits with his silver tongue. She fans a spark that he believes died with Jill. He then feels compelled to help Quinn with her plight as she, in turn, helps him.

I have to confess that when I first read the synopsis I was disappointed that Jill had been lost to Morgan, but I came to understand the mercy of it later in the story as Morgan's mother spoke with Quinn about Morgan's and Jill's shared pain and brittle love. I had wanted to believe in a "happily ever after" for them, and perhaps that is truly what they received.

Kristen Heitzmann's Christian characters are not fluffy, ideal specimens of perfection but rather real, flawed, struggling, and grace-craving like the rest of us. She hits the mark again by giving us clean, but by no means boring, fiction. The Breath of Dawn will turn you into a Kristen Heitzmann fan if you are not one already.

The Breath of Dawn is, well, what can I say? There's a reason Kristen Heitzman is one of my favorite authors. She writes some of the best Christian romantic suspense I have ever read, and this book certainly did not disappoint.

Quinn Reilly figured she was safe, thought she had managed to "disappear" so that her past wouldn't catch up with her. But then in the blink of an eye, danger is upon her. Morgan Spencer has been through so much pain in his life that he hardly expects anything good anymore. His little girl is the only thing keeping him going. He and Quinn meet and then circumstances through them together over and over. When he hears of her plight, he offers a solution that sounds crazy to Quinn-- and to Morgan's family. But will it turn out to be something so much better than either of them could ever imagine?

There are two previous books in this series, and while each stands alone, the other two will give you some background into the lives of the characters. They are A Rush of Wings and The Still of Night.

This book is an awesome read and I would highly recommend it.

This is a wonderful, heartwarming story. While it is primarily a romance, it also features action, mystery, suspense and a strong spiritual influence. Quinn Reilly, a young eBay trader, meets widower Morgan Spencer, a corporate turnaround specialist whose field of expertise is problem solving.....and Quinn's got some big problems.

Four years earlier, Quinn testified against a con man who embezzled and cheated a church's congregation out of a huge sum of money. Now the con man has been released from prison and is out for revenge. Quinn and Morgan's budding romantic relationship may be threatened and Quinn is concerned that her problems may put Morgan and his family in danger. Doing what he does best, Morgan comes up with an unconventional solution to Quinn's problem, but will it keep the family safe?

The characters are very warm, likable people except for the villain, who is deeply evil, delusional and aggressively pursues his obsession for revenge. The Spencer family has strong faith in God and love for one another. Spiritual concepts are demonstrated throughout the story. For example, when Quinn admits to being reluctant to ask God for help, Morgan compares his own love for his daughter and the joy he feels from her love to the love of God for His children. The spiritualism and wisdom woven through this story are beautiful and inspirational.

This is the third in a series by Kristen Heitzmann. Readers who have not yet read the previous books will run to the bookstore for copies of the earlier books. 'A Rush of Wings' and 'The Still Of Night' are the first two books in the series and feature most of the same characters. There are hints of back story throughout The Breath of Dawn and readers will want to spend more time with the Spencers by reading their stories.

I was given a free copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers for the purpose of review. I highly recommend this book for adults and teenage readers.

Breath of Dawn was dynamite from beginning to end!!! Heitzmann has a talent for writing stories that draw me in and grab on and this was no exception. I started reading and didn't put it down until I was finished. It really was just that good!

This is the third book I've read featuring Morgan Spencer, and it may be my favorite so far! Heitzmann isn't afraid to put her characters through the wringer and Morgan and Quinn certainly face some challenges. The romance is just perfect–giddy comes to mind. :) And of course there's a great element of suspense (and thankfully not as creepy as some of her other books).

I was sad to see the book come to an end and am anxiously awaiting Heitzmann's next book! [5 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House & Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my fair and honest review.
