Black Friday is when I pulled the trigger on the Exposition Commentary by Warren W. Wiersbe. I thought I was getting a $299 commentary for $39.99. So I was a little naive. The everyday price is $69.99. I received the 6 volume set in perfect condition: Hardcover, glued bindings and stiff heavy white pages. I don't think they would hold up to everyday use over an extended time, but on the other hand I do not handle many of my bible reference library (other than my bibles) books everyday so I am ok with that. I will be honest that I wanted want of those $600 full commentaries by theologians I have heard of. I had to google Warren W. Wiersbe to find out who he was. He was a 20th century theologian with a Baptist doctrinal background. He was also a prolific Christian writer. So for $40 I took a chance. I was very glad I did.

It just so happened that I started a new 2016 bible reading program beginning in Luke. I divided the 24 chapters into three 8 chapter segments. Each week day I would read one segment for couple of weeks which, if I didn't miss a day, would have me go through the entire book of Luke about 3 times. During my reading I had some questions pop up. Luke 24 narrates the "Road to Emmaus" story. At the end of the story the 2 on the Emmaus road with Jesus return to Jerusalem. Then someone says in verse 34 "The Lord has risen indeed and has appeared to Simon!" I was never sure in my reading who was talking there. Was it the two on the Emmaus road or the disciples in Jerusalem? I opened up the commentary and it revealed that it was the Jerusalem disciples talking. So I went to the beginning of Wiersbe's commentary on Luke and started reading. I found out that Zachariah burning incense in the temple was a high honor and a priest would do this only once in their life time. I found that extremely interesting and those tidbits of tradition and history that provide context to the bible are what I want in a commentary. I have not gone through all the volumes or even one volume, but I like the conversational style of writing which is also written in an expositional sermon type style like J Vernon McGee, James McDonald, and John McArthur. This is a very nice addition to your study library. If this was a $300 set I would rate it 3 stars, but as a $70 set I give it 5 stars based on value and content. You can spend more and get more, but I dont think you can spend $70 on 6 volumes and get more than this commentary set provides. I am very happy with my purchase.

You may already know that the Warren Wiersbe commentaries are a very good balance of conservative Bible application and scholarly highlights. So then the question is which of the three publishing versions to buy. I have purchased all three. I say this 6 volume set is the best deal for the money and printing quality. This 6 volume set has the thickest, best paper, it also has larger text than the two volume set, (but the dozens of paperbacks version have the only advantage of having the largest text size). I love this six volume set. It is the most durable printing quality of the three ways that this publisher sells the Warren Wiersbe commentaries.

This commentary set has been a tremendous help in my walk with the Lord. Dr. Warren Wiersbe is a true man of God, who has written this series in such an easy to understand format, anyone can pick it up and receive wonderful verse by verse explanations/meanings and insight into God's Word. Though I have been a believer/follower of Christ most of my life, I have not had any formal Bible training, yet Dr. Wiersbe writes with such clarity and in a "down to earth" fashion, it is a thorough encouragement and makes me want to dig into God's Word even deeper and learn and grow more. This series of commentaries more than met my hopes and expectations, and if I could give it more than five stars, I would! I wish I had this set many, many years ago!! Thank you, Dr. Wiersbe, for your wonderful work and to CBD for making it available at a reasonable price!

This is a must for any serious Bible student that wants to grow in their knowledge of Scripture and application of God's Word. As a new pastor, I consult Wiersbe every week in preparation. Some commentaries are so dense and technical that you get lost in high-level scholarly debate that isn't applicable to the average Christian. Other commentaries are so broad that they don't give any detailed exposition. Wiersbe strikes an excellent balance. His commentary, which is the same content from his "Be Series" Bible studies (minus the discussion questions) can be read for personal devotion, personal study or in preparation to preach or teach. Wiersbe's writing gives the pastor that prepares thoroughly a good break from all of the technical reading done in sermon prep.

I chose to purchase the 6 volume set because it is completely unabridged (although I do wish the reflection questions would've been included) and is very readable. I read that his 2 volume edition was very small font and was difficult to read.

Wiersbe is an excellent expositor! You will be happy with your purchase and you can't beat the price for a complete commentary set!

I use to work for a Christian retailer for several years and was acutely aware of Warren W. Wiersbe and his works, among a plethora of other writer's resources. In my decision to delve deeper into the Bible by way of commentary resource(s), I chose to lay out the equivalent commentary of the particular book of the Bible from the various authors I chose (McGee, MacArthur, Boice, Henry, Wiersbe, Phillips, among more!) and essentially narrowed my preferences down to two authors: J. Vernon McGee and Warren W. Wiersbe, who were the easiest to understand but still get a rich commentary.

Specifically, this product came as described. I'm very satisfied and am sure this will come in handy as an invaluable resource in my library.
