Well written, good read. Doesn't blow you away with warm fuzzies, but more realistic in that sense than most.

DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The characters are ones that I was interested in, the plot well thought out. The only drawback for me, was that in the middle of the book it slowed down and was a little difficult to get through.

Excellent book! Good story line, keeps you wondering how it will end. I love this new author...read her 1st book as well.

On the whole, Julie Klassen has crafted a wonderful book that I liked much, much better than her first one. Lilly is an engaging, sympathetic character, and I could identify with her because I also have a somewhat photographic memory. I also appreciated and identified with Lilly's desire to live a life that did not challenge traditional feminine roles while still remaining true to her medical gifts. Her strength comes through well, to the point that Lilly almost carries the entire novel. That's important, because the plot has some holes. I found that there were almost too many suitors, too many unresolved questions and conflicts (i.e., Lilly's mom), and too many small conflicts that didn't make a huge difference in the plot. However, as I said, overall, this one was pretty good, so I will try Julie's work again.

I learned quite a bit about Apothecary history from this novel. The history coupled with the struggle of Lilly being a female at a time when women were not welcomed into the medical field, made for an interesting story. 3 1/2 stars - full review at my website.
