Jen PenMidwest5 Stars Out Of 5Great story from a different point of view...June 25, 2014Jen PenMidwestQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5SUMMARY:
Tyler Anderson has grown up Amish yet feels a pull on his heart that causes him to feel unsettled. Explaining his concerns to his intended, Rachel, as well as his grandparents who raised him, Tyler prays for a sign which may show him where he belongs...either in the Amish life or the Englisch world. The Amish Groom is the first book in The Men of Lancaster County series.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Both new authors for me, I am wondering how I missed them. As a reader of Amish fiction, I was intrigued to find an Amish novel written from a different point of view- that of a man's. Though not sure what to expect, this story just flowed naturally through different struggles, faith, family bonds, confusion, indecision and following the heart. Along with the storyline, the writing was so well done, I often had a hard time finding a spot in which to stop reading. (I happened to be reading a book on Amish faith concurrently with this novel and found The Amish Groom to be closely on track with the Amish beliefs/ ways of life...something I appreciated.) I definitely plan on reading the next book in this series!

Maria5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't put it down!January 11, 2014MariaThe Amish Groom by Mindy Starns Clark and Susan Meissner is the first book in The Men of Lancaster County series. I loved this story!! There were so many dynamics, and I liked the plot idea. Actually, it's the best Amish fiction book I've read in a long time. Needless to say, I can't wait for the others in the series! If you've grown tired of Amish fiction, then this is the book for you. :-) I enjoyed reading from a guy's perspective. A nice change of pace.
Tyler Anderson lived Englisch for six years, but when his Amish born and raised Mother died his dad left him with his Amish grandparents. Since his dad was in the military, he left him there for five years before coming back for him. Married. With a toddler. Feeling like they didn't really want or need him, he said he would rather stay with his grandparents. But now twelve years later he is filled with confusion and doubt about who he really is. When his dad needs his help, it's the perfect opportunity for Tyler to figure out if he is Englisch or Amish so he flies to California for a month to watch his fourteen year old brother while his parents are out of the country.
Leaving his love behind is one of the hardest things for Tyler. Rachel is already a baptized member of the church so if he finds out he is Englisch he will lose her forever. But what about his half-brother and dad? How can he make it all work out? Praying and trusting God, Tyler becomes sure of his path.
I couldn't put this book down!! Sooo good. I liked the resolution of the story. Somehow the authors wrapped it all up perfectly. Plus, they made it a satisfying ending even when I was kind of wanting a different ending. haha I highly recommend this story! If you've never read Amish fiction, this is a great one to start off with, and if you are already a fan of Amish books then you will love this story.
I was given this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. -

Kav5 Stars Out Of 5Loved this!October 8, 2016KavQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What an absorbing story! And, honestly, I'm gobsmacked over how quickly I got lost in it because it is told entirely from Tyler's perspective, In first person point of view no less. And you know what? That wouldn't be my first pick for any kind of novel but it totally worked for this one. I was on tenterhooks the whole read, feeling the pressure right along with Tyler as he struggled for answers.
This story explores the perils and rewards of being in relationship. Tyler impressed me from the very beginning. Honest about the issues he is wrestling with, he seeks counsel and then steps out in faith. He feels like he is caught between two worlds. When he's living Amish he feels something tugging him outside of the close knit community. When he's visiting his dad he yearns for the simplicity of the Amish life he was raised in. His journey towards self-discovery completely captivated me. And it's punctuated with wry observations on our fast-paced 21st century lifestyle. Riveting from start to finish.
