This was a great book. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I started reading it, but once I began I couldn't put it down. I received this book as a ARC, and below are my thoughts.

This book is appropriate for a High School or Older Audience.

+It Brings in Culture Students Can Relate to.

+Very Whitty. Multiple times I laughed out loud. Not a boring read in any way.

+Very Much to the point. Each chapter describes a different god that often rules our life.

+There are boxed sections for added stories. Also at the the end there are Idol ID's which help the reader see if this is a god in their life. Also a "Choose Jesus" section at the end of each chapter --NOT Decision Theology-- rather how to make God the center of our life.

+There is lots of Scripture!!!

+Very Relateable Illustrations.

Only Negative thing would be the end left me wanting more.

I would STRONGLY Recommend this book to ANY Student.

gods at war is an inspiring devotional that motivates it's readers to examine their spiritual lives and identify those gods that are trying to, and in fact are taking the place of God. Kyle offered such insightful views on the whole topic of idolatry and the root of every issue: selfishness. Reading through this book opened my eyes to the fact that everyday things, objects of our everyday lives can easily become idols and strongholds in our lives. Kyle Idleman address the struggles that come our way as young adults, adults, and tweens. There was also humor peppered all through this read, which made it even more enjoyable to read.

One highlights of this book is the fact that younger audineces can easily relate to and understand the topics. Also, its humor, it's straightforwardness, and most importantly, the fact that is it Bible based and heavily scriptural is also a highlight. Unlike many other spiritual books out today, gods at war was very honest about idolatry. It wasn't a watered down sugar-coated version of what the Bible says.

I think that anyone who reads gods at war will definitely benefit from it's insight and message.

If someone were to ask you to name all of the Ten Commandments, could you do it? What about the second commandment in particular? The one that says "You shall not make for yourself an idol." I know I have often overlooked that one because it seems obsolete. No golden calves here, not a one. So, I'm good. Right? WRONG!

Idleman points out very clearly that idols come in all shapes and sizes, and he devotes a chapter to each of the main ones that students (and adults) put on the throne of life. The god of entertainment is a good example. Although Idleman makes it clear that watching a little television or spending time playing video games is not a sin, putting these things ahead of God definitely is. Anything can become an idol if it replaces God in your life.

In this book, idolatry in its modern form is clearly defined and explained. Age appropriate examples are included. The organization of the book is simple and easy to follow. There are also healthy doses of humor and interesting facts. I highly recommend this book for students. So many things try to lay claim to our hearts, but God and only God can truly fill the void. Anything else is a poor substitute.

The Bible commanded us to not kneel down before idols. This seems irrelevant in today's society since we no longer make golden statues of cows and worship them to bring rain and good luck. But a new world has brought about new types of idols and these idols have a special hold on the teens of today. Things such as food, love and technology have taken a place in our hearts; a place that God should hold.

This is a great book not just for teens, but for whole families to read. It's shocking how many objects of our everyday lives can easily turn into idols. Kyle Idleman, the author of Not a Fan, has created a guide that helps identify our idols, learn how to tear them down and discover the one person who can take their place and satisfy the desires that built them in the first place.

Idleman does a terrific job of writing in an easy, breezy tone that keeps a younger audience's attention while still treating our idols as seriously as they should be. There's humor and there are great pieces about everyday people that helps make examples relatable. It's understandable and enjoyable, but still informational.

This should be a must read for all youth groups and stand alone teens. It would make a great gift for any occasion and especially with the upcoming graduation season. It's a lesson that needs to be learned sooner rather than later and Idleman is the best teacher. Five idols out of five.

In this student edition of "gods at war" the

author talks about the wars going on inside of us from idols and false gods (notice the lowercase 'g'). Things were talked about such as money, popularity, and like, while sending out the message that Jesus Christ in the only way we will ever truly be happy.

I wondered how this book would be and have to admit that I loved every second of reading it! Kyle Idleman address the struggles that come our way as young adults, adults, and tweens. There was humor throughout which made it even more enjoyable to read, and the author was just incredible. I found myself laughing at some of the things he said, and the notes at the bottom of some of the pages were just awesome.

It was very enouraging and inspiring! I highly think that any teen should read this, and it wasn't boring in anyway!
