Publisher's Description

When a lawman who values order gets stuck with a feisty crusader who likes to stir things up, there's going to be trouble in Texas!

Now that she's settled in town, Tina Cahill is determined to get Broken Wheel's saloon closed for good. To that end, she pickets outside the place every afternoon. Unfortunately, so far no one has paid any attention.

Vince Yates earned the nickname "Invincible Vince" because of his reputation for letting absolutely nothing stop him. But Vince is about to face his biggest challenge yet: his past has just caught up with him. His father, mother, and the sister he didn't know he had show up in Broken Wheel without warning. His father is still a schemer. His mother is showing signs of dementia. And his surprise sister quickly falls for one of Vince's best friends. Vince suddenly has a lot of people depending on him, and Tina doesn't approve of how he's handling any of them.

With nearly every other man in town married off, Vince finds himself stuck with strong-willed Tina over and over again. Of course, Tina is the prettiest woman he's ever seen, so if he could just get her to give up her crazy causes, he might go ahead and propose. But he's got one more surprise coming his way: Tina's picketing at the saloon has revealed a dark secret that could put everyone Vince loves in danger.

    Stuck Together

    Trouble in Texas Book 3

    By Mary Connealy

When Tina Cahill moved to Broken Wheel, Texas, to live with her big brother Jonas, she determined to shut down the saloon. But Tina's determination just might not be enough. After all there a few woman and children living in Broken Wheel to help her in her campaign.

But Tina is good at one thing - stirring up trouble. And she's determined to stir up as much as she can, even if it means dragging Jonas and his friends into it with her. If she can just convince Broken Wheel's unpaid sheriff Vince Yates to take her part - she knows that she'll get things changed quick.

But Vince has problems of his own, what with his family making a surprise visit. And then Lana Bullard is still a prisoner that he can't figure out what to do with. And Tina is starting to become his biggest problem, especially where his heart is concerned. Vince has a secret that makes him push away any chance of love, but Tina has a way of getting under a man's skin. But somehow this little pest has managed to make her way into his heart and he's fighting it all the way.

But when Vince needs help he has to call on his friends and somehow he and Tina seem to keep getting stuck together. They're both determined to somehow make it through this crisis with their hearts intact though it is growing more difficult as they discover that the other does have some admirable traits after all.

This is the final book in the Trouble in Texas series. In this book we get to learn more about Vince and Tina. Both of them have major family issues that have had a lasting impact on them. Vince fears that he will take after his parents - leaving him as unfit a parent as they both were. Tina suffers from fears of rejection, as she has had the people in her life leave her behind.

When a series of crisis break-out Vince must decide which one takes precedence even if upsets his friends in the process.

All in all readers of this series should be delighted. I would have liked an ending a little more fleshed out though it was well concluded and should satisfy series fans. Historical fiction with a generous splash of romance, a jail break, a missing person, and a possible war with the Indians - get ready for some Old West excitement!

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher Bethany House through their blogger program in exchange for my honest review.

I was new to Mary Connealy's writing when I read the first book in this series, but I was hooked good from the start. There is nothing like a good western comedy, funny but never silly. Stuck Together is no exception, it's like watching a Christian version of McLintock!, complete with the mud fight!

I honestly can't say enough about how much I have enjoyed this book, and the whole series. I love the humor, the liveliness of the characters, the dusty settings, the subtle lessons woven into the storyline. My only disappointment is that this is the last book in the series, but I think I will console myself with some of the author's other books.

Maybe I've watched too many Westerns, or is that even possible? But Mary Connealy has done such a great job that I felt like I was right there with the characters, walking the dusty street, riding across the desert, and of course marching the picket line with Tina.

Stuck Together is the story of two people with a lot of baggage from the past. Both of them have a lot to work through in order to have a future, just as long as it's not together mind you. I really enjoyed the way the two of them snipped at each other, and everyone else as well, it was just too funny.

There is also a good western mystery thread woven through the story and leads to the climax of angry Indians, a shoot-out, and a cave with some secrets.

One of the things I really liked about this book was how everyone in Broken Wheel, especially Vince, were kind and loving with Mrs. Yates's growing confusion and lack of memory. Knowing someone with similar issues made those sections of the story especially poignant for me.

Stuck Together is one of the best Christian westerns I have read and I highly recommend it if you like Mary Connealy's books, historicals, or just a good Texas story.

Stuck Together is the newest saga in Mary Connealy's Trouble in Texas series. Mary is a very talented author, and I always enjoy reading her works. This book is a delightful end to the stories about the lives of four men who met during the Civil War.

In this tale, Tina Cahill does whatever she can to close down Broken Wheell's saloon, even if it means picketing outside it every day. She's determined to 'civilize' the town and isn't afraid to stand up against the men who frequent the saloon.

Vince Yates has his hands full dealing with the pesky woman while also trying to figure out what to do with his female prisoner he has in custody. His life is turned on end when his family arrives and his father dumps off his mother who has signs of dementia and a sister Vince never knew he had.

Stuck Together is a fun story and a delightful read. Put it on your list as a book to read this summer. You won't be disappointed.

Stuck Together is the third book in Mary Connealy's Trouble in Texas series. Book one is Swept Away and book two is Fired Up. The trilogy follows the lives and troubles of a group of men who met in the war and have bonded closer than brothers. They now all live in the same small town in Texas called Broken Wheel.

What I liked: Stuck Together is another notch in Mary Connealy's belt in telling entertaining, romantic comedy. This story is a lighthearted read filled with fun and adventure.

The heroine, Tina Cahill was fun. Her natural penchant for trouble combined with her fragile self-esteem made for a character you could root for. Vince seemed like an appropriate match for her. He's smitten with her from the first moment he saw her, but restrains due to his own hurts and fears of every having a family. His restraint only feeds her inner turmoil that she is unlovable. The cat-chasing-his-tail conundrum created by these two makes the pages easy to turn to find their resolution.

The mystery side of the plot was engaging as I couldn't guess the trouble maker until the characters started to figure it out. Also the tension that Connealy added in page after page pushing "Invincible" Vince to the edge was enjoyable to read.

What I didn't like: Jonas' story. I was very disappointed with this part. If you've read along with the series so far you will understand what I'm talking about. If you are just joining with the Trouble in Texas Series now, you may not find anything out of joint at all.

Jonas is the last leg of The Regulators group to fall in love. Instead of giving him his own book like the others, he is given a few chapters throughout this one. It is a whirlwind romance ending in a proposal after a couple days. Then the rest of the book the two lovebirds sneak off constantly, returning with messed hair and disheveled clothing. He is the town Parson! I absolutely did not like this part of the book.

I also found the writing disjointed. It felt "narrated" most of the time. It made the reading choppy for me. This series has not been as good as her earlier one The Kincaid Brides.

I would recommend this book to others who are familiar with Mary Connealy and like romantic cowboy comedy. However this is not a good one to start out with if you've never read her before.

Thanks to Bethany House and the author for giving me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not expected to review it positively.

This tale takes place in 1869, shortly after the Civil War has ended, in the small town of Broken Wheel, Texas. Stuck Together is the story of Vince Yates and Tina Cahill. Tina was orphaned at an early age, and raised by a maiden aunt, Iphigenia, who made it clear she didn't want the responsibility of caring for a child. Iphigenia was stiff, set in her ways, and never showed Tina any affection or love. Because of her aunt's cold treatment, beautiful Tina believes she is unlovable. Suddenly, Iphigenia marries, and Tina finds the new uncle uncomfortable to live with. Impulsively, she sets out to find her older brother, Jonas, and live with him instead. The day Tina arrives in Broken Wheel, Vince is immediately smitten with her.

Vince Yates was raised with little love. His mother, Virginia Belle, came from a rich southern family, and, although kind, was distant. His mother's riches have been multiplied many times by his father, Julius, whose only love is money. Julius raised Vince with a heavy hand, and was cruel and intolerant.

Virginia Belle suffers from an early form of dementia, and most of the time, is confused about who she is, where she is, or the identity of those around her. Because of that, she must be watched constantly. Julius has no compassion for his wife, and his only feelings about her condition is that it is an embarrassment for him in society. Vince is concerned he will either inherit the dementia his mother suffers from, or become cruel like his father, so he vows never to marry. This becomes a difficult resolution to keep the longer he is around Tina.

Vince is a Civil War veteran who had survived the infamous Confederate Prisoner-of-War Camp, Andersonville Prison. Vince forged life-time friendships with Jonas Cahill, Dare Riker and Luke Stone while incarcerated there together. The four had become known as “The Regulators” as they worked with each other inside the prison to bring order to the miserable disease ridden Andersonville. After that ordeal, the men consider each other family. They all had settled in the Broken Wheel area after coming there to help Luke get back a ranch that was rightfully his.

The author uses humor while telling a story that includes the serious subjects of indifferent and hard-hearted parenting, and the difficulty an adult child experiences with the long-term caretaking of a sick parent. The story also includes kidnapping, a jail break, erratic and dangerous behavior as a result of alcohol, and conflict between American Indians and white settlers. In the midst of all this, romance blossoms.

This is the third book in the series, Trouble in Texas, and the story can stand on its own. I have read a number of the author's works, and have enjoyed all of them. She is an expert at interweaving many character's stories, and including humorous situations, too. Ms. Connealy's tales are always entertaining, interesting, and written from a Christian perspective. This book is no exception, and I recommend this 5-star book to anyone who enjoys tales of the Old West, romance, or clean fiction.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Bethany House Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.
