Annie Downs is an author and speaker out in Tennessee. When she's not working on books, Annie spends her days writing all over the internet- blogging at AnnieBlogs.com and (in)courage- sharing biblical truth about her life as a single Christian woman and the stories that are woven into each day. Annie is the author of two books, both of which are for teens: Perfectly Unique, a spiritual growth book for high school and college girls, and her newest book; Speak Love, a challenge to young girls on how to use their words to make a difference in the world.

First off, as a I am not a teen girl, I can certainly say that I am not the author's target audience. I have however seen the movie "Mean Girls" so that makes me an expert, right? Ha ha... hardly.

Look, we all know that the words we say can be uplifting or damaging - and as social media and technology makes our world smaller and our "reach" wider it's important to understand the power of our words. My son learns about bullying in Kindergarten now! That's crazy, but it's the world we live in. I know first hand the effects of being picked on and picked last and I can say without a doubt that a book like "Speak Love" is needed in the world.

We often forget that the Mother of Jesus was a teen when she discovered that she was pregnant - an event in her life that could have her killed! Mary runs to a beloved cousin and tells her story - and rather than shake a finger, ground her or tell her how disappointed she was in Mary - Elizabeth "blesses her" - and that blessing leads to Mary's rejoicing and singing the Magnificat!

This is a terrific book for that teen girl in your life to use as a devotional (with the companion journal) or to read along with her at night. Annie "says it like it is" and keeps it readable and livable and I know that girls will appreciate her transparency.

I pray this book sparks a movement.

Thank you to Zondervan for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
