This is a powerful work of non-fiction, and a very accurate report on the facts of life in Northern Uganda, which has suffered from a 21 year war, involving tens of thousands of child soldiers. Akallo and McDonnell do a wonderful job taking the reader into a troubled world and yet give reason for hope at the same time, exploring human resiliency. Having been to Northern Uganda three times in the past two years, I can report that this is an accurate portrayal of life for far too many Ugandan children. Read this at your own risk: you will feel called to action.
