SUMMARY:

Abigail, Amelia and Anne-Marie, three feisty, beautiful sisters, are hauled off to jail while dressed as nuns. Add a numbskull of a shoe salesman, Mr. Hershall Digman, and things just get crazy. While being rescued, Amelia steals a horse, discovers secret papers in a saddlebag, and finds herself in a few precarious predicaments (the shoe salesman turns out to actually be a handsome captain). Through it all though, she grows in faith, responsibility, love, and maturity.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:

For a shorter book, this story definitely offered a lot! While giggling in the beginning with the hilarious, outrageous heroine, I was intrigued to watch Amelia grow as the story took on a more serious tone. Romance, war, forgiveness and struggles all played a part in this novel which I enjoyed as much as the humor, courage, spunk and sassiness. As the story moves along, it was also heartening to experience the growth in faith along with Amelia and her Rebel captain/ shoe salesman. I would love to see a continuing story of the other two rescued sisters in much the same way!!

If nothing else, the one thing the McDougal sisters can do well is swindle a man faster than Robin Hood of old. Naturally, such going-ons can only go unpunished for so long. So when the McDougal sisters find themselves facing some serious jail time, there isn't much the fast talking trio can come up with to get out of this one. Luckily, their disguise save the day and three men see their plight in passing and come to the rescue. The problem isn't the fact that they're being rescued, the trouble lies in who one particular sister, Abigail, ends up with. Her sisters get fine, strong, capable and strapping young men. But she is stuck with a traveling shoe salesman who doesn't seem to have the slightest clue on how to keep them alive as they wander travel through Texas.

Hershall Digman doesn't have the first idea on how to handle the rambunctious Abigail and has even less idea on what to do when she steals his horse and the packet of papers in his saddlebags. He has a mission to fulfill, and her taking off like her life depended on it is not helping matters at all. He is running out of time, resources, and patience; and now has sensitive papers to find, along with the girl who took off with them. He knows the simplest way to explain himself is tell her the truth about who he really is and agree to take her where she needs to go. But that is going to prove nearly impossible to accomplish with the minx sporting unusually green eyes and an even more unusual personality. Will they be able to solve their differences in time to get them both to their designated meeting places?

This was definitely one of those laugh-out-loud romances that had me giggling with delight every other page. Okay, so some parts were more serious and danger filled, but a lot was just downright funny. I have meet some pretty feisty characters in the pages of novels...but Abigail sure did beat them all! She was in action faster than I could guess what she was going to do, and just had my head spinning. Her "rescuer" played the part of a bumbling idiot so well I almost believed he was completely in the dark about survival skills. These two will have you alternately laughing and holding your breath just wondering what they're going to get into next!

If you need a bit of light reading with tons of romance and humor, this book is for you. I laughed and cried right along with the heartfelt story. I could picture myself in some of these crazy situations. This book will remain in my top 10!

Abigail McDougal and her sisters, Amelia and Anne-Marie, were raised by the sisters at the Mission San Miguel after their parents passed away. Mischief was never far behind them and, when they grew to be young ladies, their mischief turned to more serious offenses--scamming the wealthy to support the Mission. Now their crimes have caught up with them. On the way to prison in a jail wagon they are attacked by the Comanche but, just when they think it's the end, they are rescued by three men. In order to save their live they separate and Abigail finds herself with the insufferable Hershall Digman, shoe salesman extraordinaire. Hershall's bumbling, idiotic ways infuriate Abigail and tempers flare. But is Hershall really what he seems or is he in disguise just like Abigail in her Nun's Habit? When Abigail steals his horse so she can return to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters she discovers confidential papers to be delivered to the confederate army. To her surprise Hershall Digman isn't as idiotics as she thought. He's an undercover spy for the confederate army!

Hershall Digman, aka Barrett Drake, has never met a more infuriating woman. Now she has the papers he is supposed to deliver to General Smith in order to stop and attack. The only solution-- take Abigail with him to deliver the message and then return her to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters. As they set out to complete their separate missions together, what was once an act of one tolerating the other has now bloomed into a mutual admiration and maybe... love. Abigail has already given her heart to Barrett but the memory of his late wife still haunts him. Will he finally realize he can't live without her?

Lori Copeland has such a way of spinning a story. Sisters of Mercy Flats drew me in from the very first paragraph and I eagerly awaited the turn of every page. I loved the whole concept of Abigail and her sisters using disguises to scam money from unsuspecting wealthy patrons and as nuns no less. Who doesn't trust a nun? The best part, for me, was the constant tension and bickering between Abigail and Barrett. I laughed out loud at "Hershall's" actions as a bumbling shoe salesman and Abigail's reaction. They wanted to throttle each other and it made for some really great scenes. The story didn't get any less captivating once the bickering stopped and the romance started, maybe more so. It left me smiling and feeling satisfied and I am eager to read the next two books in this series. If you love Historical romance with humor sprinkled in, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it!

Wow! Sisters of Mercy Flats is a must read for all Christian book fans who love lots of humor to go with a great romance. I loved every page of this book. The adventures starts on page one and just keep getting better. I dare you not to laugh out loud as the story progresses. Just wait until you meet Hershal E. Digman. Thank you Lori for all the smiles and laugh out loud moments I enjoyed. I am having a hard time waiting for the other McDougal sisters stories. I would give this book a 10, but the book sellers only go up to a 5, so...
