I've been excitedly waiting for Kayden and Jake's story! I was not disappointed at all! I absolutely enjoyed this book. Filled with touching romance and lots of suspense SILENCED kept me glued to the pages late into the evening.

When Kayden discovers a dead body on one of her climbs Jake is immediately deputized and working the case. Threats and red-herrings abound keeping Kayden and Jake questioning many suspects.

Kayden was prickly as ever, but since finding out who Jake really is there has been a thawing going on. She still wants to hold people at arms length determined not to be hurt. Her desire to be so independent gave me several moments of frustration, but that only added to the tension of the story.

Jake's past is catching up with him, but he is determined to settle it. He begins to hope that Kayden will eventually return the feelings that Jake has for her, but those feelings put everyone they both love in danger.

I'm now going to excitedly wait for the next McKenna story! We got to see a bit of Reef in this story and I think we even got to meet his love interest. I think the sparks are going to be flying in that one!

The author repeated herself a lot. Did Shane Tate really kill Conrad Humphries? What was his motive? The author never really cleared that up. Then, the book shifted to another story. For the most part, it was good but no one was Silenced. I hope there is a book about Reef & Kirra's story.

I read the first book in this series, but it has been a while and I had forgotten a lot of it, but I was a little familiar with the characters going into this book although I wasn't up to date on the lives of them all. It wasn't hard to understand what was going on even with the lack of knowledge of the other books.

I enjoyed the story. It was fast paced. The adventure portion was fun. The romance was sweet between Kayden and Jake. I enjoyed the other characters being in the story both to see how the characters are doing well from previous books and looking forward to what I suspect is the next book. It was nice to see Piper interacting with Reef about his own life even though they weren't the main characters. It added to the story and made it seem like the reader could really tell what was going on in the whole family's lives. The characters were well developed. Each family member has his/her own personality and qualities that played out in the story.

This is a Christian suspense story, and the way the author wove their faith lives into the story was not overbearing and did not take away from the story at all. I appreciated that the author wrote a good story and didn't make the religious side overpowering.

It was an enjoyable book to read. I'd like to pick up the ones I missed!

I received this book free from Bethany Publishing House in exchange for my honest review.

"Silenced" is the fourth book in the Alaskan Courage series by Dani Pettrey. As with Dani's previous books in this series, a certain character is honed in on and developed, all while a part of an insuing crime related investigation. Kayden is the McKenna member highlighted in this book, as well as the now-redeemed Jake Westin.

I have to say that this has not been one of my favorite series. I have found the characterization to be a bit on the shallow side, lacking the development I would love to see better fleshed out. The plot seems to move very quickly, the relationships become quickly intense, and the relationships border on unrealistic. I also find the mystery to be lacking in "mystery". I have discovered the culprit pretty quickly in each book in the series, and the resolution seems to move at a snail's pace once it hits a certain point.

If you really love the books in this particular series, I'm sure this one will not disappoint. I am not quite sold on the characters and, as mentioned above, would love to see more deeper characterization of each. For instance, we are made aware of Kayden's extreme discipline with food and fitness as a way of coping with the fear that she may develop rheumatoid arthritis. I found this obsession extreme, and could not seem to connect with Kayden. I, too, have struggled with similar challenges with obsessive diet restrictions as a way to try and keep the cancer I once had at bay. However, I would have loved to see her actually deal with this or be confronted by family concerning it. Maybe that will be dealt with in the next book in the series!

If you enjoy fast-paced, cliffhangers (pun intended), you will enjoy this book.

After reading the third in this series of books, I was going to "nibble" this fourth one at the store. Because of time restraints I bought it and took it home.

There is a totally unconnected murder story - or is it connected to sidetrack the main investigation? Even so, there seems to be no connection. Nor is there any solution. Story lost in the shuffle? Is it just a filler? Whyfore is it there for?

The writer and the reading audience are 'Christian', right? What is it with the hot, intense, suggestive hugging and kissing scenes and the thought life? - Several songs are mentioned. I do not know the songs, singers, etc. but I am assuming they are in line with other practices as mentioned above and also the dancing, etc. that should stay in the secular books.

I was not all that enthused with the first three books; this one is disappointing. If there is a fifth one in the making, as has been intimated, it will definitely get checked out before I buy (or not). I AM sorry, but even two stars is more than I really think this story earns.
