Peggy5 Stars Out Of 5July 24, 2010PeggyI am a veteran homeschooler, and I love the Shurley Grammar programs. I tried several different programs and was still looking until I found Shurley two years ago. Now I'll never use anything else. It explains things for me so that I can explain them to my student. Last year my third grader helped her twelfth grade sister with figuring out what job a word had by using the way Shurley teaches them to classify sentences. I only wish I had found Shurley years ago. I am starting my twentieth year of homeschool this year.

mom5 Stars Out Of 5Love Shurley English!July 25, 2016momQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The student labels the types of words in the sentence (noun, adj, pro, etc.) instead of diagramming the sentence. We all hated diagramming and it made English a miserable class. The jingles are excellent in helping learn the structure of a sentence, although we didn't use the CD, we just made up our own rhythm. It has four vocabulary words per lesson, but does not include a spelling word list. You will need a separate spelling curriculum. The student practices writing one day a week, so it doesn't get too overwhelming. I wish this went through 12th grade!

Megan4 Stars Out Of 5October 7, 2008MeganWe're just 3 weeks into this so it will take more time to really evaluate it. It's very systematic, one concept building on another. My children seem to be picking up on things quickly and I think they will ultimately develop a thorough understanding of grammar. It also seems to help them pay attention to details (yippie!). Exclamation, Strong Feeling, Exclamatory sentence. (E) :-) I've used more than one approach to grammar over the years and find that none of them are perfect. I like rigorous grammar instruction, so I think I'll be happy with Shurley Grammar. Suggested Improvements: The Jingles. They are very awkward and not much fun. My children much prefer the grammar jingles we purchased through Sonlight several years ago.

LynnAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5October 28, 2010LynnAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I have a child with learning disabilities. So much repetition put to a jingle really helps. I do wish it came with a student workbook so I didn't have to write everthing out for him.
