I am a long time user of Saxon math. It is very thorough in setting up the progression needed to master a principle. I especially like the way it reviews what was learned previously before a new idea is taught. The text begins slowly and may be a bit boring to the student at first - due to the review concept. But then when new terms are taught, it does an efficient and complete job at helping the student grow to a level of mastery. I suggest that. before purchasing, you examine your child's mathematical level because they may be ready for the next grade level more rapidly than you anticipated.

I like the scripted text for the teacher/parent so I know HOW to teach the material which is particularly useful for me in teaching lower grades. I used Saxon for other grades for my other children, and I trust the material. I would recommend Saxon for the lower grades, up to around Grade 5. After that, my children found it too tedious. The only reason I gave quality an average rating is because the paper used in the workbooks is thin and there is no color.

My daughter is doing well with this program. She is engaged and working at a good pace.

I would recommend this program to any first time home schooling parent who needs a thorough program for their child. The teachers manual is great; it tells you what you need for each lesson and gives you a script for each day's meeting. The assessments have been great too. It gives me a better picture of where she's at so we can speed up or slow down as needed.

the price was great for a full curriculumn, however math 1 is supposed to be a 1st grade level but i found it too easy. first grade work really didnt begin untill the middle of the book. The meeting times became somewhat boring after awhile. Because it was so easy for my 5 yr old we did two lessons at a time in the beginning. It does to a good job at progressing ahead while reviewing what was already taught. I bought the munipulative kit along with it which was great,no searching for what you need for the lesson! The lessons require very little preperation, really just need to read over it once to be ready for the morning! overall for the price this great,it fufills its purpose.

I have a college minor in math, and feel competent to teach first grade math to my kids. I bought the Saxon math on the recommendation of several friends and family. However, upon receiving this packet, I find the directions are confusing, and somewhat lacking in the teacher's manual, as to what one is really supposed to do for the meeting book lessons, and the regular lessons. The items listed as manipulatives have been difficult for me to find at a local teacher's supply store, and now I am faced with either buying a "Saxon set" from an online company, which seems to have enough of some of the items for 2 students, but not enough of all items for 2 students; or buying two "sets", with obvious unnecessary duplicates; or trying to get along without the manipulatives. The online company is mainly a regular classroom supply house, and so to buy the missing items from the kit means I need to buy 25 of them, or 2000 of them, etc. Not really what I need for two students.

As per my review on the "second student" kit, I am still missing the meeting book for the second student, and will need to order that separately: something I was unaware I needed to do when placing my original order.

The paper is very thin on these books, and feels cheap: more like newspaper print than a nice workbook.

This just has not been easy to get started with this product, and I cannot comment yet on the content of this class. I am thinking of returning this product.
