Ten Rules When We Are In Desperate Circumstances
September 17, 2014
Robert J. Morgan in his new book The Red Sea Rules published by Thomas Nelson Publishers gives us 10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times.
From the back cover: God delivered the Israelites and He will deliver you too.
Just as Moses and the Israelites found themselves caught between the devil and the deep Red Sea, so are we sometimes overwhelmed by lifes problems. The Red Sea Rules reveals that even in the midst of seemingly impossible situations God promises to make a way for us. His loving guidance will protect us through danger, illness, marital strife, financial problems, or whatever challenges Satan places in our path.
Using the Israelites story in Exodus 14 as an example, Robert Morgan offers ten sound strategies for moving from fear to faith. Life is hard, especially for Christians. It is certain that we will face difficulties, and that God will allow them, as He allowed the Israelites to become trapped between Pharaohs rushing armies and the uncrossable Red Sea. But just as certain is the fact that the same God who led us in will lead us out. As The Red Sea Rules makes comfortingly clear, He is in control.
What a situation in front of the Israelites is The Red Sea, to the right and left are impassable mountains and the only way out, which is the way they came in, is soon going to be filled with angry Egyptians who want to kill them all. And the best part of everything is that God Himself brought them to this spot on purpose. What do you do when you are in an impossible situation that looks absolutely hopeless? Pastor Morgan wrote down the ten steps found in Exodus 14 as our template. Pastor Morgan provides a nice breakdown of the events that occurred, what they did and what we should do. Then at the end of each chapter he provides Study Questions to help what we learned become part of us. Why do we need this book? We all have our Red Sea experiences that clog us with stress, worry and cares that draw our attention, The Red Sea Rules re-focuses our attention on our God and away from those things so that we can be renewed and refreshed. It always helps to be reminded that The Same God Who Led You in Will Lead You Out. This is one book you will be returning to over and over again.

i have purchased this book several times and have given away my copy time and again. asva Stephen Minister i find this book to be very helpful to remind folks that they are where God wants them to be, even if it hurts. it also reminds us that God knew this trial was coming and will see us through it, just as He parted The Red Sea to allow His people to cross on dry land. the rules themselves are well phrased and i post them in my home to remind me of past trials that God has used to help me to grow. not a difficult read but very insightful.
The Red Sea rules are the rules God set for the Israelites are rules we need to follow today. In this book, Robert J Morgan describes the rules of the Red Sea and they apply today. This book is not a big book, only 10 chapters, but as the old saying goes, "Good things come in small packages." Robert has packed a lot of information in an easy to read book with scripture verses, study questions at the end of each chapter and stories that will inspire you. This book could be read at one setting, but I would suggest taking time and think about what you are reading.
Some of the rules are: Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord, Envision God's enveloping presense and Don't forget to praise Him. These and the other seven rules will be very helpful at times you feel you are up against a wall, as the Israelites were at the Red Sea.

Morgan was feeling overwhelmed with life's pressures when he turned to his daily Bible reading, Exodus 14. In further study and meditation on that chapter he identified ten principles for handling dilemmas and discouragements. He has found them to be an effective strategy for coping with the stresses of life.
His Red Sea Rule #1: Realize that God meant for you to be where you are. Rule #2: Be more concerned for God's glory than for your relief. He realized that asking the right question is essential. Rather than asking, "How can I get out of this mess?", ask, "How can God be glorified in this situation?"
He continues to explore the biblical passage, identifying his rules. Some of them are expected, like Rule #4: Pray. He clarifies our choice - pray or panic.
Some of his rules will require discipline, like Rule #5: Stay calm and confident and give God time to work. Committing the situation to Him and waiting for Him to work is often hard. But Morgan also has a rule about taking the next step.
He has included many stories to illustrate his rules. Some are from his own life, some from biographies and many from the Bible. He includes stories of God's miraculous deliverance in Rule #8: Trust God to deliver in His own unique way. He describes God delivering overtly (through a miracle), covertly (by providence), and mysteriously (a deeper level of intervention than we can discern).
Each of the rules is a little Bible study in its own. Morgan has included questions for thought after each chapter and there is a study guide available at the book's website.
This is a great little book. It would make a good devotional study, reading a chapter a day. It would also be a good book for a small group. Each of the rules is a practical and biblical principle that will help us live out our daily lives to the glory of God.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
